Re: NAIAS 08: HUMMER HX Concept

I love it. I think HUMMER could really use something like this to compete with the Wrangler/FJ Cruiser. The H3 is just simply to big and expensive.

Re: NAIAS 08: HUMMER HX Concept

Hummers have always looked good... I will reserve my judgment until a production version is finally shown. All i know is if GM does the I-5 again........ they will have blown another great opportunity

HELL YEA!!! But at least use the 3.7 I5 for the bare model... in a light suv it would be fantastic.

Re: NAIAS 08: HUMMER HX Concept

Its perfect except for one HUGE problem. The press release makes no mention of a manual tranny! Auto only?! If it came in at or less than jeep wrangler money, it might be worth looking at.

I really like it. Hopefully, this will be a great alternative to the Wrangler.

Re: NAIAS 08: HUMMER HX Concept

That is definately B.A. It would make a nice compliment to the proposed pickup truck.

I do hope they price it right. I admit, whenever I get in a new Jeep Wrangler, I am always baffeled at how they charge so much for one. I mean, look at everything. Archaic as hell. Very basic. I think it should sell for around $13,000. I get out and see the window sticker and freak that they are asking $25,000. Oh well.....
I think the sloped back is perfect. It aligns with HUMMER heritage without invading Jeep/FJ territory. Yet the profile is unmistakable when everything is removed at being very much Jeep like. Also it looks like 4 adults can fit somewhat comfortably, something my current TJ Wrangler doesn't do so well.

I don't honestly think Wranglers are overpriced. For the utility and prowess they possess, it's not a bad price tag. Additionally, getting rid of the SE doesn't help the overall price (but I'm sure they were eliminated for a reason).

Especially considering that nearly anything else is at least 25K, I don't think the Wrangler is a bad deal. In fact, it suits my purposes quite well. Off-road capability, 4X4 (for some nice snow/winters), plus convertible? It doesn't get much better than that...at least in Colorado.

*EDIT: I shouldn't say anything else is 25K...but I certainly think that 20-30K is the norm. I wonder what the average spending on a car is in North America? Or median, for that matter.

With its compact dimensions, almost no overhangs and grippy 35-inch tires, the HX is ready for all terrains. Like all HUMMER production models, the HX has sturdy, body-on-frame construction, onto which is mounted front and rear independent suspensions.
The front suspension features an electronic-disconnecting stabilizer bar for enhanced maneuverability when driving off road, and the rear suspension is located with Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC)-machined, billet trailing arms. Heavy-duty shocks with piggyback reservoirs were custom-made for the HX by renowned racing shock manufacturer Fox; one is mounted at each wheel position.
Seems like this issue might be addresed, not nessecarily your ideal, but it may provide a suitable offroad ability?

Yes, I have seen an H1 flex. (the suspension, not the body-the body's not supposed to flex) They have tremendous articulation. An independant suspension has much greater potential for articulation than a solid axle does. Solid axles are just cheaper.
