Hey nsap, Ford is doing more than just "actually working on them", Ford already delivered 20 of them to SCE, whom they have a colaberation with.

A grid intertie system coupled with a Volt or other plug in hybrid would be a great combination. Even at the .99 per watt, the new panels completely blow away silicon wafer panels. Nanosolar has pre sold out their entire first year's production.

I impatiently await being able to buy a system from them for my home.
I await solar, too, especially as my electric bill keeps rising. I just wanted to point out that the original author had described charging with solar at night

I wasn't suggesting they weren't.

OK, but is that not your Short Take at the beginning that says "Ford is actually working on plug-ins"

Yeah...because the big thing now is Plug In hybrids. Everyone is working on them. This vehicle is Ford's PR front to showcase their work on them.

No, Ford developed their system independent of Toyota.

I know, its just fun to bring up because it was such a controversy when it first came out. That, and Ford still pays royalties to Toyota to use it. So - will they have to pay plug in royalties as well?

Ergo, buy some solar panels. I know I would.
That will be one expensive roof to replace when the hail comes beatin down golf ball size...heavy insurance premiums.

That already happened 3 months ago. The prototypes were delivered to 2 Universities in California for real-world testing. Toyota doesn't hype as much as GM, so some steps don't get noticed.

Ehh...the Provoq looks a lot better.
A recent study some analysists performed discovered that people are more attracted to hybrids if it doesn't look like a car already on the market. That's why the prius is so popular. I'm not sure why Ford has a fascination with making the Escape into every hybrid concievable.
