NAIAS 08: Buick Riviera Concept

NAIAS 08: Buick Riviera Concept

Short Take:
The same Riviera Concept from the Shanghai Motor Show. GM Shanghai did the development of the vehicle and it supposedly has production possibilities for China and the U.S. market.

It looks pretty good, but I see a lot of BMW Z4 coupe in the rear end/quarters.

Now I cannot wait until the show starts. I have wanted to see this since its debut.

I think Buick or Caddy would do well with a luxury sport coupe.

Re: NAIAS 08: Buick Riviera Concept

I see a lot of potential for a production version to also have a Saab spin off. The similarities to the Saab Aero are there. It'd be great if Saab and Buick can have shared products. It would bring a luxury image to Saab and a youthful spin to Buick. Saab's vehicles spun from Chevy platforms only hurt the brand.
A buick version of the 9-3 would be great.
The new 9-5 being similar to the new Lacrosse coming out.
... just a few ideas.

Re: NAIAS 08: Buick Riviera Concept

Looking at the first two photos I had hope it would be built. Then I saw the gull wing doors and knew right away that it will never see the highways of China or the USA.

Looks good! This is an inspiration design for a new Riviera, it wont have the gull wings and the exterior lighting accents but would look quite similar.

Agreed, though we might see a grille inspired by the Riviera concept on the 2010 w-body Lucerne.

But seriously, I have always wished they'd spend more time on concepts that were less 'pie-in-the-sky.' I could get alot more excited about a concept that I could actually envision making producution versus stuff with gullwing doors, blue outside 'ambient lighting,' spaceship interiors, etc because I realize that even if they decide to move forward the production car will have to be watered down significantly.

At this point, all that stuff like this does is make me scratch my head as I go by the Buick dealer full of LaCrosses and Lucernes.

Re: NAIAS 08: Buick Riviera Concept

I love this but know that Consumers Report would trash it (even without the gull wings)for difficult to read gauges, switchgear and especially for tiny mirrors and very limited rearward visibility due to small, high rear window and susceptability to high cost damage for lack of serious bumper fascia. All the more reason to do it!

http://www.autoblog.com/photos/2010-...-shots/415872/

I think that the LaCrosse will take some cues from this--especially the wraparound taillights and the roofline from heaven.

We cannot post PriddyDoane shots here, so you will have to click on the link.

Can we expect to see the LaCrosse in Detroit, or will we have to wait for New York?

Is there anything that has not been leaked yet?
