Re: NAIAS 08: 2009 Subaru Forester

I'm struggling to recall an attractive Subaru. The best in my eye would be a Legacy. It's not pretty by any measure, but it's not butt-ugly like all the others.

don't be surprised if this is the last unique forester. i bet if there is another one, there will be no boxer or symmetrical AWD. toyo will cost cut subie out of business.

Re: NAIAS 08: 2009 Subaru Forester

I think it looks pretty decent. Not the most beautiful vehicle on the road, but certainly an improvement over the old Forester, whose looks I have always hated. My retired aunt drives an LL Bean one in dark blue with dark grey trim that actually looks half decent, but I still always thought the old Forester had gangly proportions.

This is a pretty interesting link, it shows all the clay models/design proposals Subaru had to choose from.

many more at link.

I like #1 and #3 there. Good thing they didn't pick #2 or it would've looked too much like the Nissan Rogue.

When I saw the second image I thought "Hyundai Santa Fe."

The fourth image looks very much like a Nissan X-Trail to me.

Re: NAIAS 08: 2009 Subaru Forester

They picked an all right clay model for the new Forester.

#1 Reminds me of the Suzuki SX4
#2 Reminds me of the Hyundai Santa Fe/Tuscon
#3 Reminds me of a blend of a B9 Tribeca and some other small SUV
#4 Reminds me of what the Ford Escape should have looked like

Re: NAIAS 08: 2009 Subaru Forester

I thought Toyota's purchase of Subaru was for engineering purposes, not for design. Really, Toyota can't be that involved with Subaru's designs.

It is just, ehhh, IMO. Suby has seemed to get very bland since Toyota showed up on their scene.

I agree. I for one actually like the original B9 TRIBECA. It was interesting and unique all around. Since then most of their launches, everything from toyota, and the nissan rogue all look like a big fart on wheels.

Blah, weird front end (Subaru needs to find a better front design theme) 90s looking side view, rear end just as bad as the front.
