Re: NAIAS Detroit: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Impressive numbers for sure, but who the heck can afford to buy, insure and use this beast, and where are you going to drive it without AWD? Any moisture on the ground at all and it sits in the garage.

I like the idea of an everyday MKS with AWD and Eco Boost. I bet it costs $15K less to buy and certainly to ensure as well. Better FE is not exactly a bad word these days too.

Oh I'm still here.
I said my peace on the CTS-V's engine months ago.
And it still needs to be a high-powered turbo DOHC V8.

Is this the engine XLR-V will get? If so... it needs to have 575-625HP to be competitive. Though 550 might be OK.

Awesome. Lutz was serious about blowing the doors off the competition. HP sells cars, TQ wins races...and the CTS-v has both.

Yeah...and the Porsche 911 Turbo with tiptronic is not a guys car at all...

Folks - GM needs to work hard to be as marketable as possible. This seems like a perfect fit for the Z06. If it works well in the CTS-V then it would broaden the appeal (read sales and profits) of the Z06.

My current ride - 2004 Mazda6s - V6 with a five speed manual. GM forced me to the competition because they didn't offer a midsize sedan with a V6 and manual transmission.

Agreed. GM's excuse that the ultra V8 was cancelled due to CAFE changes is ridiculous. I don't see the trucks going anywhere. I am happy the CTS-V has the right HP numbers - but it would have been better with a DOHC V8 under the hood.

Hey...we're all entitled to our opinions right....just some of em are wrong...lol

As far as needing more power, it won't be long before aftermarket tuners have this thing making over 600Hp very easily.

Re: NAIAS Detroit: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Who knows..maybe this is the most powerfull Cadillac GM will ever have.
This information bugs me (probably an error)
550 hp at 6200 rpm and max. torque of 550lbft at 6200 rpm. Shouldn't that rpm number for torque be much lower.

Re: NAIAS Detroit: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

Love the specs. Still, no way this comes in under 60k. Won't be surprised if it hits 70k.

And after seeing official pictures, I must say I would have been fine with paying 70k. Thanks for the 62k bargain GM~! :-)

Exactly what I was thinking, how many pieces are actually different between an LS9 and an LSA anyways? It'd be really nice if it were just a cam and controller software...

Re: NAIAS Detroit: 2009 Cadillac CTS-V

This should be a superb vehicle from just about every perspective and represents a useful halo vehicle for a brand. The only concern-and it's a pretty minor one, all things considered-is that there's no mention of a two-door CTS/"CTC." Ugh.

This is an error. It is impossible for HP=Tq at 6200RPM.

By definition, HP=Tq at 5252 RPM and at no other RPM.

Nevermind - I see from media.gm.com that it's atleast cam, supercharger volume and pistons, possibly heads and much more. Still, I'm sure the boys at LPE have already been working on this for a few months...
