Re: London 08: Opel/Vauxhaul Insignia Photos
Love the car but the dash is a little busy IMO.
Otherwise I wish it was here next year like in Europe. I understand why GM is delaying it though. Resources are thin and in a weak economy you don't go crazy with new launches. |

If GM doesn't bring this car here it shows they're dedicated to leaving the US market.

GM should bring it here. but not screw up like they did with the astra and the G8 with the lack of advertising and options

And it still wouldn't sell. It would be a Saturn. No one buys a Saturn. Worst brand recognition in the US, imo. How do you stop Prius sales... slap a Saturn badge on it. Result: total anonymity. So, replace the Malibu? Ridiculous. That is a stellar car and it sells very well (as well as any mid-size GM car in its 1st year w/ no incentives has any right to). I still get list price for every one w/ '09s just hitting the lot. In fact, this Opel looks very much like a '08 Malibu. Some details are nicer, some uglier. Far uglier (Nike swoosh on the door, anyone?). The fact that it may be Epsilon II would be lost on anyone not in the automotive know (the buyers of mainstream mid-size CamCords, for instance). Bottom line: bring it here in 3yrs. Or more accurately, bring EP II in 3 yrs w/ Chevy styling. Before that, the new Buick can introduce EP II to the U.S. and incorporate upscale features. The leaked Buick shots from last week looked waaaay too much like a Malibu. The only thing I'm jealous of w/ the Opel is the sweet looking stick. U.S. will never get that. |

Very nice car. If GM doesn't bring this car to the U.S. in this form without dumbing it down, I am done with GM altogether.

Re: London 08: Opel/Vauxhaul Insignia Photos
On some cars there's a knob behind the shifter, on others there's a little cubby.
Wonder what that's for?

Re: London 08: Opel/Vauxhaul Insignia Photos
I read somewhere that the Insignia had an electric parking brake. Can anyone help me identify it in these photos. Is it the button to the right behind the gear box?...

Re: London 08: Opel/Vauxhaul Insignia Photos
GM is bringing the Insignia/Aura here at some point, likely in 2011 MY. It doesn't make sense right now to replace the Aura, as it is only 2 years old right now. In addition, changing over the tooling for EPII wouldn't make sense yet, because the Malibu is built on the same line and uses EPI with Aura.
Look for the Insignia/Aura to be produced one year after the new Invicta comes out so they can ensure the launch and quality of the Invicta, and so that GM can properly market and launch the new Aura this time.

Re: London 08: Opel/Vauxhaul Insignia Photos
This is a gorgeous car and would be a runaway seller in the U.S. I know we are getting the Invicta and while I like it, I really like this more.
This car, along with Invicta & Malibu would more than cover GM's needs in the midsize sedan market. Of course it would be suicide to badge it as a Saturn. Maybe GM should think seriously about doing away with the Saturn name and bring Opel back to the U.S. This thing is hot!

Wow, that car is drop-dead gorgeous. Seriously, that picture that is up on the main page with the hatch and the sedan on it made my jaw drop... And I'd seen pictures before.
That would be a nice Opel to bring here. |
