    LAIAS 2012: 2014 Porsche Cayman

All-New Porsche Cayman Coupe Mk2: The First Official Photos
    NOVEMBER 28, 2012
    Carscoop

Porsche will push the covers off its brand new, second-generation Cayman at the Los Angeles Auto Show later today, but if you're in the mood for some official imagery ahead of the unveiling, here are three high-resolution pictures of the coupe.

There's no hiding the fact that the new Cayman is the hardtop sibling of the fourth-gen Boxster roadster (981) revealed in the beginning of 2012. The same, of course, holds true for the outgoing model, only this time, Porsche's designers seem to have done a much better job in integrating the roof onto the Boxster's body.

The sleeker looking new Cayman also sports a redesigned front bumper and a reworked boot lid, but other than that, it's the same car as the roadster.

I must say, my jaw dropped a little. Porsche did a fantastic job with the exterior design. I hope the C7 looks this good.

Yea it does but it has some amazing road presence though. When I see porsche's lineup not included the suvs it makes me wish GM had a separate division that could mimic them properly.

Actually, I get a bit of a Ferrari vibe from the front end.

I mean, sure I agree, I wish Corvette was a brand and it competed with Porsche and the like, but I've just never been a fan of Porsche's styling at all. I never see one driving down the street and go nuts.

I would never want Corvette to mimic Porsche!! We are not Porsche! We are Corvette!!! and thus should and have our own path.

Uh oh. Porsche may have screwed the pooch here. They made the Cayman pretty.

This could mean trouble for the 911. This car is cheaper, better and now no longer looks like a kit car.

I'm a 911 owner, and now that the Cayman is pretty, I would definitely consider one over a 911. Particularly with $30,000 at stake.

Looks like still no sunroof option. Makes it a non-contender in my book.

I like it, but I have a bone to pick. Why do they include a front license plate in these pictures? (I realize front plates are necessary in some jurisdictions, but these are press release photos, why not take them off?)

The roof looks pretty small to begin with. Where would the sunroof slide into when you want to open it? Seems like it would have to interfere with the back windshield, which means to add a sunroof they would have to change the whole shape of the car by lengthening the roof.

Agreed. I've always thought Porsches looked feminine with a bit of Kermit the Frog thrown in. Though I have to say they've strayed farther from the norm with this model than with anything previous. Meh... next.

P.S. Its impossible to look at any Porsche and not see some VW Beetle in there, especially from the rear. I can't get past that.

I think there is a little more "new" in this one than the 911.
