Geneva 08: Opel Tigra TwinTop "Soft Top"

High-Resolution Images

Rüsselsheim/Geneva. The new “Illusion” model variant is another iteration of the quick-changing Tigra TwinTop: the two-seater’s electro-hydraulic retractable steel roof is covered in a Bordeaux red canvas, which gives the car the soft-top look of a classic fabric-roofed cabrio – without foregoing the benefits of a hard top. The Tigra TwinTop “Illusion” will be one of the stars on the Opel stand at the 78th International Motor Show in Geneva.

This variant also comes with many standard features, such as leather trim, heated seats, air conditioning, MP3-compatible CD-Radio, on-board computer, two-layer metallic/pearlescent-effect lacquer, aluminum sport pedals, color-coordinated safety belts and footwell mats, as well as 17-inch light alloy wheels in bi-color design. The special “Endless Summer” edition is also available for customers who would prefer the extensive standard equipment, but without the canvas roof.

Customers can choose between a 1.4 (66 kW/90 hp) or 1.8-liter (92 kW/125 hp) gasoline engine. Both come with a five-speed manual transmission, while the 1.4 TWINPORT can also be ordered with an automated Easytronic five-speed manual gearbox. As with all Tigra TwinTops, the changeover from coupé to cabrio in the “Illusion” takes place at the touch of a button and requires just around 18 seconds.

Re: Geneva 08: Opel Tigra TwinTop "Soft Top"

That top is hideous. Most convertables look best with a black top and this one is no different, especially considering the black seam that disects the entire roof. I thought we moved past the outdated look of Landau tops 20 years ago.

Seems a kinda pointless inovation.

BTW Tigra seems to have dropped off the Holden website.

Because it wouldn't sell in enough numbers to justify production and recoup costs.

Wow, the Tigra was the most unlikely model to get the landau roof treatment and voila!

They could sell it in small numbers as a niche model instead of selling them in to great of numbers when it might not sell. Selling it as a niche model would test the waters for how well it would sell in greater numbers.

And by doing this, GM would be using all of it global position to increase market share in all markets.

GM needs to learn a thing or two from Whirlpool about leveraging there global manufacturing base.............

Because customers would walk out the door disgusted with that fake roof cover... brings back way too many late 70 buick and cadillac vinyl nightmares to me... shruggg

Re: Geneva 08: Opel Tigra TwinTop "Soft Top"

as much as i love off beat and unique for the sake of off beat and unique, i see absolutely no point in this... contrary to others though, i hate black only convertible tops. too me part of the allure of a convertible is the boutique/ avant guard, visual impact of a well designed and color contrasted top.

My guess is it probably does not meet EPA regs and US crash standards. IMHO

I would like to see some interior pics!
