Chevrolet, Cadillac & Holden To Star At The 2007 Middle East International Motor Show

Efijy Gets Another Stamp In Its Passport

GM Holden Limited
9 November 2007
www.holden.com.au

Holden’s most globally recognised concept car will headline the Middle East’s largest automotive event, the Dubai Motor Show, starting on 14 November.

The stunning EFIJY, a contemporary reincarnation of the 1953 FJ sedan, has featured in magazines, websites and television programs around the world and its Middle East visit will further establish its global popularity.

Richard Ferlazzo, GM Holden’s Chief Designer who designed and helped build the showstopper, will also make the Middle East journey. He said it was fantastic that EFIJY had another opportunity to be displayed on a world stage.

“This car exists purely for automotive entertainment, so it’s very gratifying that it gets to be showcased around the world like this,” Mr Ferlazzo said.

“The Middle East is Holden’s largest export market and has always had a very keen interest in cars. It’s exciting to see that the same level of enthusiasm shown in Australia for EFIJY has been replicated in all parts of the world.”

While in Dubai, EFIJY will also be part of an exclusive General Motors Style event which has been a mainstay of the Detroit Motor Show, which celebrities such as Jay Z, Eva Longoria, Justin Timberlake, Carmen Electra and Matthew Perry have attended in the past.

The first ever “GM Style” event to be held in the Middle East will occur on 11 November and brings together some of General Motors’ most iconic vehicles.

EFIJY will be joined by concept cars such as the forward-thinking Chevrolet Volt plus the brand-new Saab 9–3 convertible, Cadillac Escalade Middle East Special Edition, Hummer H3 Open Top and the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado.

GM Holden will also have some involvement in other concept cars at the GM Style event. The Chevrolet Camaro and Chevrolet Lumina CSV CRS were also penned by Holden designers and will be showcased at the event.

Terry Johnsson, President of General Motors Middle East Operations, said this event was a tribute to style and a celebration of GM’s design renaissance.

“GM Style will bring a unique perspective to the trend setting, fashionable city of Dubai, integrating the worlds of fashion, automotive design and entertainment,” Mr Johnsson said.

“GM's vehicles will take their rightful place on the runway along side some of today's top names in fashions and entertainment and we’re thrilled that EFIJY will be part of this show."

Creating EFIJY was a passionate side project for some Holden Design team members and a real labour of love for all those involved.

The radical pillarless custom coupe boasts a 480-kilowatt, supercharged six-litre V8 engine, Chevrolet Corvette underbody and state-of-the-art automotive technology throughout.

The EFIJY concept car was first unveiled at the Sydney Motor Show in October 2005 and has since gathered a growing legion of fans wherever it has been displayed.

This headturner has received world wide recognition including the prestigious title of 2007 North American Concept Car of the Year by South East Automotive Media Organization (SEAMO). It was also described as ‘probably the most beautiful concept car ever’ when it was named Hot Rod of the Year by the influential Hot Rod magazine in the United States.

The Dubai Motor Show 2007 is at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and runs from 14 to 18 November 2007.

The countdown has begun for the 9th edition of the five-day Middle East International Motor Show (MEIMS) in Dubai, which will take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) from 13 to 18 November 2007.

At the previous edition of MEIMS in 2005, the talk of the town was the Cadillac Sixteen concept car. This year's theme for General Motors (GM) will continue to highlight leadership in innovation, technology, design and emotion.

GM will feature four exciting award winning concept cars representing the cutting edge of design and technology, a world premieres and 10 regional premieres. Six show premiere are also part of the elaborate unveil programme on the press day on 13 of November.

GM has eight major product launches slated for 2008 across its brands. Visitors and car enthusiasts will be able to see most of these new or refreshed cars as they are unveiled during their first public debut in Dubai.

Chevrolet CSV CR8
Chevrolet Corvette LS3
Chevrolet Avalanche Z71
Chevrolet Aveo 5
Cadillac CTS
Cadillac SLS

Toyota Corolla (press launch November 5)
Toyota Land Cruiser
Hummer H3 V8
Honda Accord (press launch November 4)
Infiniti G37 Coupe (press launch November 12)
Infiniti EX35 (press launch November 12)

The Efijy is a great car, but would be a flop as a road car. Imagine how many changes they would need to make, the best and most they should do is get a coach builder to make a few hundred of them on order.

Forget GM. The Maybach "Luaderate" or whatever it's called looks exciting. Hell, it has granite trim on the interior. How cool is that?

Forget GM? Are you on the wrong blog? Perhaps you should find some MB site that would better suite your tastes.

The Maybach 62 Landaulet is pretty tacky. I suspect it will be as irrelavant at The Show as Maybach is in general. Even Mercedes-Benz's own S-class is better styled and more of a success in its market than any Maybach will be in its niche. And I betcha better styled vehicles like the Chevrolet CSV CR8, the new CTS, and the concept EFIJY will draw larger crowds despite the more plebian roles in life of the first two.

Wolfn99,
How are those two cars even COMPARABLE??? Holy smokes. A rat rod compared to an over-opulent rich coach? Give me a break. You need to lay off the drugs, dude. That Maybach is for people who are too stupid to drive their own car. You've successfully insulted every classic car owner out there.

Go buy a Honda.

Re: Efijy

Whenever I hear that name, I think of 'effigy', as in being burned/hung in effigy. The car is gorgeous (and I understand why they named it that), but it really needs a better name.

Re: Camaro

Speaking of being burned in effigy...am I the only person who thinks the nose of the new Camaro is hideous? Every other angle is great, but I can't get past that grille. Not that Chevy should care what I think, since it's not a car I would consider anyway, but I'm going to have to look at my dad's when he gets his. Maybe I can convince him to back it in to my driveway when he comes visit...

Yeah. However, Bentleys are cooler and better styled. I'm just amazed at the design and elegance of the Maybach

No, I'm not on the wrong blog. I'm very loyal to GM and hope to become a car designer for GM after college.

Yeah, I guess so. But still, granite interior.

Hey, didn't I hear the new Escalade was supposed to have granite trim?

That made no sense.

I wasn't comparing them. If GM was going to debut a new Cadillac Sixteen or something, then I would be rooting for that at the Middle East show. However, GM isn't bringing anything new to the show, but the Maybach sounds interesting and fresh.

Also, I don't do drugs.

And, I'm not buying a Honda. It's GM for me. I'm currently saving up for a Chevrolet HHR. So far, I've saved up all my paychecks and saved up $7,000
