99% of people, chinese included, don't drive on autobahns, so why they should care?

It was a response to your "In 80's cars had much lower top speed." If you have a speed limit on your highway, what else do you want to say? I am a little bit confused now.

Don't forget, EVERYTHING on that dash is light up in that pic... under normal driving most of those (hopefully) won't be on!

Re: Beijing Preview: Roewe 550

Sure Rowe kinda looks like Rover but why don't they buy a nameplate from Cerebus? Studebaker, Packard, Nash, AMC are just some of the brands that Chrysler owns.

I believe this design was at least 90% British(Ricardo engineers housed in Britain). For now, the real "Chinese" designs are exampled by Chery and Geely.

Re: Beijing Preview: Roewe 550

Posche + BMW + VW + Chrysler + Every Other Damn Car Company in the World = "Chinese Design"

Where would they be without other people's ideas?

Now let's just see if they can copy the quality of other cars, and produce and deliver several hundred thousand of them globally. Not as easy as it sounds. Kind of reminds me of the Chinese "Space Shuttle" they once trotted out for the public to see of "all their technological advancement". Haven't seen it launched...Heck, I haven't even seen it on the tarmac at all. Sure looked like like a space shuttle...

This looks very good IMO. Nice lines, very elegant. Interior is a mishmash of ideas. S class IP, but Torana's IP guages, BMW esque center stack and two-tone black/tan interior.
Overall, very nice.

Oh, yeah...Forgot about Mercedes.

We have seen other Chinese sports cars, etc., on the show circuit only to never see them again. I have a feeling the Brits helped a lot in this one.

Re: Beijing Preview: Roewe 550

Chinese cars will advance at an unprecedented rate because they simply crib the engineering, design and styling of their foreign partners.

To sell cars in China an automaker is required to partner with a domestic Chinese automaker who assembles the cars. The Chinese get access to all of their partner's work and will use them without a second thought.

China and southeast Asia has zero respect for copyrights and intellectual property, just as they do for human rights.

Yeah, that's exactly what they're doing. It really is alarming! I mean, this car is really impressive for a Chinese vehicle! The interior looks high tech, high quality and the outside is decently styled. The interior really is what impresses me the most. Should give worry to all the major automarkers.

Block their sales for copyright/ design infringement...Of course hard to do...But they need a swift kick in the but. Let everyone else do the hard work and then just shamelessly copy it.

Re: Beijing Preview: Roewe 550

exterior is ugly. But it doesn't change the fact that an unknown Chinese automaker made a better looking interior than those found let's say in a Pontiac G6 made by an automotive giant. I don't care it's a Citroen/BMW rip off. It looks better than them and I like it.

This car scares the bejeezus out of me. Very nice looking car, inside and out...

On a somewhat related note, this was on the Drudge Report this morning www.drudgereport.com :

China passes US as second-biggest exporter
