Sawadee krub from Bangkok! Here’s the car of the moment – the 2013 Toyota Vios on the stand at the ongoing Bangkok International Motor Show. J, E, G and S grade variants are on display.

One of the E grade variants in the pictures (in white) is kitted out with Toyota accessories which include fog lamps, a chrome surround lower front grille, chrome body mouldings and various other chrome bits here and there.

Automatic air-con and chrome-trimmed interior door handles are amongst the offerings on G and S grades, and electrically-adjustable wing mirrors from E grade on up. Keyless start and entry is offered on the top S grade.

Last Gen Vios was the Yaris sedan so this has clearly diverged from the new Yaris.

the Yaris sedan and H/B have always bean divergent as there "BASE" is the same BUT there home market they are different nameplates with there own marketing and "personality"
I wonder if there will be ANY FE improvements as the 1NZ-FE engine is a carry over from the FIRST ECHO!!! and I assume the AMT tranny will still NOT come to America

My aunt in Thailand has a Vios. It rides smoothly, has high ground clearance, and is narrow enough to get through rural mud/dirt roads. It's pretty much the ultimate third world sedan.

Better to be cheap, easy to fix, fuel efficient with the ability to handle rough roads while at the same time being able to navigate tiny streets than be a huge, expensive, fuel guzzler.

    Different markets have different needs.

The nicest American sedan (say, for example, the Cadillac XTS or Chevy Impala) would be trashed after a week over there. There are cars made for smooth first-world pavement and there are cars made for all kinds of conditions. Our trucks and SUVs are also too wide, thus the popularity of the narrower Ford Ranger (it's not the same as the US Ranger) and Toyota Hilux.

As diminutive, ugly, and cheap as the Vios is, it's better over there for carrying people through harsh conditions than the typical cars we drive over here.

Here's a video I took of us riding in the Vios from my grandparents house to the place where we had lunch:
