Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

GM would be shooting themselves in the feet if they didn't fully support the Detroit show. They, of course, will be there, and so will Ford and Chrysler.

One minor silver lining is that GM will probably receive more press coverage of its products since so many other companies are either withdrawing or scaling back their debuts.

Nope, I emailed Scott Settlemeyer about this, and he said that chances are very good that it will debut at Detroit.

Yikes.

The other makes seem to smell blood in the water and are eager to see the US makers go down.

Finally that "excess capacity" will be removed, and consumers can get used to that old phrase from the oligopoly world of the 1960's "Pricing Power."

Currently makers really don't have much pricing power - all the profits come out of squeezing blood from the turnip that is called the "Supply Chain."

Just eliminate the Detroit three and voila, Honda can jack up prices and make it stick.

Its a conspiracy. The foreign automakers want the 3 to fail so they can expand their own market share.

Exactly, now lets get angry and do something about it.

I found this link below. It sends an e-mail to your senators that says you support the American auto industry. Its not much, but at least I felt like I did something productive.

Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

Guys, this is an incredible sea change. We are witnessing an historical turn of events.

The global auto landscape is morphing into something we could not have anticipated.

Not good for Detroit.
Not good for the industry
Not good for the consumer

Good for the auto haters like the members of Congress who use mass transit or have their own drivers.

By March '09 the auto world we have come to know and love will likely be transformed into something nearly unrecognizable if some common sense doesn't come into play...like IMMEDIATELY!

I guess that would be call "Value Pricing", plus all taxes that would be added to cover banksters 1000 billions bailout mess.

I was at the LA Auto Show, and I noted the LaCrosse wasn't there. In fact, the GM exhibit was virtually empty of people. The CTS wagon did look slightly less menacing in person, and I was surprised at how SMALL that Saab Air Concept is. I FINALLY got to sit in the G8. Loved it!

I wish the best for GM's future, it would be a shame to see these cars go. I'm sure GM will be at NAIAS. They CAN'T abandon their home market. But I think that the absence of those German and Japanese manufacturers will give the Chinese manufacturers an opportunity to get more attention at the show.

Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

GM, Ford, & Chrysler had better come out swinging. If the competition isn't their to suck up the spotlight, then it will be on the Big 3. Someone here already said Chrysler won't have any new debuts, which is another nail in their coffin. Ford might have held something back for this show. Weren't they supposed to be showing a new Taurus pretty soon? I do hope that the LaCrosse looks better than in the pics I've seen. IMO, it's not as impressive as I was hoping for.

This is Ford, GM and Chrysler's show, if manufactures pull out they are insulting the US manufactures. I would think that Honda and Toyota would stay in out of respect for their strong past and current alliances with GM and Ford.

Well that sucks. If they're dropping these major shows, then the Houston Autoshow is reaaalllyyy going to suck this year. We always get screwed as it is. I've never understood that since TX is a huge state with 25+million people in it and Houston is the nations 4th largest city

It's strange that they would all pull out. Honda's probably just in it because they've gotten a minutia of press regarding their plant-towns in the US still providing jobs/etc.
you took the thoughts right out of my mind! to be honest, as far back as i can remember, i don't think any foreign car co has ever really out did the big 3 at the North American show. they always seemed to be there out of a show of respect to their most important market. but with 2 of the 'Japanese big 3' honda, toyota, and nissan, pulling out or not revealing any new products, it certainly seems to be making a statement of importance to me.

The lack of industry knowledge herein is next to appalling. Everyone here is ignoring the BIG NEWS that's all over the Toyota boards for the last 12 months. There is no way Toyota misses this show. It's major announcement has been scheduled for over a year. Actually I think Nissan, Mitsu and Honda are skedadling because they have nothing to compete with......

....the debut of the Gen 3 Prius.

It's not exactly what the D3 want to see in their own back yard especially at this period but it's been scheduled for over a year.
