Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

I know the automakers want to save their marketing dollars, but I still find this sad. I have only been to the NAIAS three times (2000, 2005, 2008) but I absolutely loved going there. I was hoping to go next year, but who knows if there will be a show worth going to. When I go, I want to see the widest array of vehicles possible. I have been spoiled by the NAIAS - the Toledo Auto Show, which I went to every year from 1995-2007 just is not that great.

It's strange that they would all pull out. Honda's probably just in it because they've gotten a minutia of press regarding their plant-towns in the US still providing jobs/etc.

If this be the case, wouldn't it be nice if the US media would report that to the American public. No chance in h*ll that would ever happen!

Sounds like all the automakers are battening down the hatches and scaling back for what will most likely be a brutal year.

People go to the auto shows to see cars; concepts, exotics and most of all "family cars". I've been going to the Chicago show since 1953. In my experience, most attendees are families with kids, a Dad with his son or daughter, or a young couple looking for transportation for their soon to be first born.

Most purchases made as a result of auto show attendance are family transportation (4 dr sedans, minivans, CUV's or SUV's).

I know I won't go to Chicago if the Big 3 aren't there.

My sister-in-law goes with us and I know she won't go. She will not set foot in an import booth. Or Walmart for that matter.

Speaking for myself, I go for both. I like to check out the Ferrari and Porsche models and the concept cars and also the Accord, and Malibu, and Galant, and so forth.

Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

Wouldn't this also be a way for the manufacturers to be telling the auto show sites that they find the costs too expensive?

Or to tell Detroit, increase the size of Cobo, but don't make us pay?

Re: Automakers Pull Out of NAIAS; GM Remaining?

i said this a couple weeks ago. GM ford etc. should pull out of NAIAS to make a statement. No free drinks and horsdoueves to the journalists that slit their throats. No hotel parties. nothing to write about. Put the journalists out of work, please.

When things are bleakest is when you need the Coyboys/GI's to ride in and save the day.

This will be the job of the new La Crosse, Nox, Volt, Camaro, Fusion, Taurus, Fiesta, F-150, Mustang, MKT, etc.

They will take away some of the distraction with the bad press and radiate hope for the future of the company to employees, dealers and most importantly consumers.
