AIMS: New Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series Makes It's World Motor Show Debut In Sydney

Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series

Toyota’s new LandCrusier will have more gear and higher prices when it goes on sale in November.

Expect pricing for Toyota's technology-stuffed 200 Series LandCruiser 4WD wagon to top $100,000 when it goes on-sale in November.

The fifth generation of Toyota's off-road icon made its global debut at the Australian international motor show in Sydney this morning.

The locals won the honour because Australia is the number three market globally, with more than 500,000 sold over the generations.

In a true rarity it was a dynamic reveal, meaning the a LandCruiser was driven across a man-made 4WD obstacle course in front of the Darling Harbour show venue.

In a worldwide exclusive, Toyota's completely redesigned LandCruiser wagon will make it's debut appearance at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney on 11 October.

The new LandCruiser, to be known as the 200 series, will offer more powerful petrol and diesel V8 engines as well as other new technologies that enhance its performance.

New LandCruiser will be unveiled at the Australian International Motor Show on October 11.

Toyota Australia's senior executive director sales and marketing David Buttner said Australia was chosen for LandCruiser's motorshow debut over the recent Frankfurt motor show in Germany.

"This is a real coup for Australia," Mr Buttner said.

"It reflects the vital role Australia has played in the development of LandCruiser over almost 50 years," he said.

Toyota's all-new LandCruiser will arrive in three grades -- all with a choice of petrol and turbodiesel engines... But none of them are cheap!

Toyota's long-awaited 200 series LandCruiser was officially launched today -- in Australia's Red Centre.

The Carsales Network will bring you our full launch review soon. In the meantime, pricing and specification details have been announced for the three-model, two-powerplant range.

The LandCruiser 200 range comprises GXL, VX (pictured) and Sahara model grades. The two powerplants (available on all grades) are an updated version of the existing 4.7-litre petrol V8 matched to a five-speed automatic transmission and Toyota's new 4.5-litre twin-turbo direct-injection diesel V8. The turbodiesel features a new six-speed automatic transmission.

Pricing kicks off with the 202kW/410Nm petrol GXL at $69,990. Next up is the VX at $79,990 and the top-of-the-range LandCruiser is the Sahara, priced at $94,990. The premium for the 195kW/650Nm turbodiesel powerplant over the petrol V8 is $10,000 at all grades.

Well, there's no green points to be won with this one... I think it includes a Yaris as a dinghy, though (for shore excusions).

I think the Tahoe Z71 can compete with this....what about yall?

Chevy should sell the Tahoe Z71 (and a smaller Trailblazer sized SUV) everywhere Toyota sells this thing.

Of course the Chevy Tahoe Z71 can compete with this ugly bloated fish. Seriously, I'm sure the Chevy Tahoe Z71 is more than up to the task.

Bleh. The new Landcruiser looks like a Tundra that is gagging on a Yaris. Whoever was high enough on drugs to approve that should get a promotion. That thing is fugly.

I'd still like to see it or a Trailblazer on the discovery channel instead of a Land Cruiser. I guess an H3 would be cool to see too, but the Chevrolet nameplate needs some representation. I thought the Tahoe may be a little too big, but this Land Cruiser is massive too.

I hope the next H3 shares it's chassis with an durable, off road ready Trailblazer.

I do like foreign automakers (and some of their products), but your suggestion that Chevrolet should sell the Tahoe globally is well taken. I like a few Toyota products, actually, but I never quite got the world's fascination with the Landcruiser; I always thought GM's counterpart offerings were superior.

And, yes, the Tahoe is up to the task. It's a product that demonstrates that despite a manipulated yen, despite the nefarious UAW, despite the biased media, despite sun spots(!) that defy GM's success, when GM decides to compete, it can actually offer a very competent vehicle.
