Spy Shots: 2010 Audi A8

A sleeker demeanor for Porsche poaching.
by Hans Lehmann/Hidden Image (2006-05-08)

Audi is busy developing the next A8, which is scheduled to be released at the end of 2009.

The first prototype mules have been sighted near the Nürburgring. Photos show the test car is about three inches longer than the current A8. Power will come from a new V-12 diesel and a new V-10 gasoline engine.

Audi's new A8 will meet strong competition on its introduction. In the same year, BMW will launch the new 7-Series, and the long-awaited Porsche Panamera four-door will also be on sale.

Our photos show a computer illustration of the new A8 and two photos of a prototype mule during testing.-Hans G. Lehmann/ Hidden Image

Wow, it looks awesome IMO. I love the Audi A8, I can't wait to see the interior.

Hmm. It really just seems like a subtler Camry/Es headlight setup with more pronounced lines, and a shorter greenhouse. And its their interpretation so...

Those are not subtler Camry headlights.

Those headlights are similar to the Audi A4

My first thoughts. THey seem more angled than the A4 lights, so I thought subtle Camry/ES lights.

Caddy needs a true competitor in the S/7/A-8 area, before they will be truly compared to those guys.

I actually prefer the 2004 A8. I still think that the '04 is the best looking luxury car, bar none, including all current models. Caddy better come with something to address this level of luxury but, I guess they need to fix the STS first. Probably a great ride but, it really only looks good from the front; from all other angles the car looks dated.

THe A8 is the only Audi that can carry that gaping maw of a grille.

Re: Spy Shots: 2010 Audi A8 (just gorgeous)

Audi is really getting ahead in this segment because I think the A8 looks better inside and out compared with a MB S600 and BMW 760Li.

well a late phase 2 or early phase 3 ULS done right and scrap the DTS and come to the game with a standard v8 and an optional v12 in the extended version and all the goodies with a no-holds-barred "perfect" car...all the bells and whistles, no matter how much it costs or fiscally irresponsible it may be to the bean counters...must be done. Because in this market, which Caddy owned in the 50's and 60's and was a legit contender in the early 70's...everything is expected no matter what the cost, and to not give everything is irresponsible!!!

it looks real nice, but i have to say i prefer the current one's looks over this. This looks a bit bland to compete with the new S-class, which i think is a masterpiece, or as simon cowel would say, a masterclass.

Re: Spy Shots: 2010 Audi A8 (just gorgeous)

I like it quite a bit. I don't think that the S-Class holds water compared to the A8. The S-class is a dog. I would take the 7-series over the S-class any day.
