Production BMW 4 Series Coupe Spied!

The i8 is not the 8 series replacement, and in many ways it could be considered more of a modern day M1 than a modern day 8 series. Were there to be an 8 series replacement it would in many ways not be utterly divergent from the Mercedes CL a large personal luxury coupe.

I thought a separate M1 was still under consideration. Also wasn't 8 series more sports car than cruiser?
I supposed i8 could be closer to Z8 in the scheme of things....?

Now we are on to something, and no the 8 series actually debuted at the time as a competitor to the Mercedes W126 SEC S Klasse Coupe. Shortly after it's debut Mercedes moved up in size with the W140 CL coupe but they were still very much competitors. While it was definitely more sporty then the SEC, and CL it was still very much a personal luxury coupe. Early rumors suggested that there would be an M1, and an i8 but I believe that this i8 alone will become a halo car in the vein of the Z8 and M1.
