New Audi Engines: 1.8 TFSI and 2.8 V6 Valvelift FSI. New 3.2 V6 FSI to output 300 Bhp

New engines from Audi
Source: www.eurocarblog.com

In october the Aachen Politechnic School will be hosting an important conference (program, in pdf), where the main german auto-makers will be presenting their engine innovations. For example, BMW will present a relation on its new 3.0 liters bi-turbo engine, while Porsche will explain the Variable Turbine Geometry system of its new 911 Turbo.

Audi technicians will be relating on two engines not yet in production: a 4 cylinders, 1.8 liters Turbo-FSI and a 2.8-liters V6 FSI with variable valve lift (called ValveLift). The first is rumoured to be a downsized version of the 2.0 TFSI, which would get its space in the Audi engine line-up thanks to the fact that the 2.0 TFSI si gaining more power (it output between 240 and 270 Hp on the hottest of the V-A-G hot hatches, the Leon Cupra and Audi S3).

The second engine should be the first production engine with the variable valve lift system present in the Audi Roadjet Concept. The engine of the Roadjet was a 3.2 V6 FSI with ValveLift, with 300 Hp @ 7,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 330 Nm (292 ft/Ibs) @ 4.500 rpm.

Fook me!

I presume the new 300bhp 3.2 V6 replaces the outgoing 3.2, and therefore will be installed in the A3 3dr ?

That, is going to be a helluva car. I shall definitely be looking at one of those come Vette-trade-in time.

Nothing quite like German engineering...

I wouldn't like to see Audi come out with a 1.8TFSI, I think they should replace the 1.8T with the 2.0TFSI. APR allready has chips out for MKV GTI's to take them to 252hp/303lb-ft.

This 3.2L V6 motor will not fit in a A3/Golf platform. They will most likely stick the narrow angle VR6 engines. Just wait till the Golf R36 hits, it will probobly have 270-280hp. The Roadjet is a concept of new Audi platforms to come. I think they are going to try to develope a longitudinal AWD platform for use in the A3/TT. I'm not sure if they'd push this to the Golf/Jetta/Passat. A longitudinal versus a transversly mounted engine will shorten the front overhand and help the understeer problems that the A3 suffers from.

This motor will probobly be available in other Audi's, A4, A6, Q7. I'd expect to see this motor in the top of the line A4 (not to be confused with S4 or RS4). And maybe as a base engine in the A6.

Asciamelto...asciialse.....ascianlel..whatever your name is - Golf R36? I thought it was R32, which is already out.

It'll be a crying shame if the A3 doesn't have a V6 in it's line-up. Stuff the people at Audi, make one. With 300hp. Now!

Thanks for making fun of my name, I appreciate it...

VW has a 3.6L version of the VR6. It is currently in use in the Passat. VW is going to use this motor in the next high performance Golf...R36...Volkswagen have allready announced plans to do so, they also announced that the United States would be getting them first.

The A3 allready has a V6 in its lineup, the 3.2L VR6. Its basically a Golf R32. The S3 is going to get a 2.0TFSI tuned to about 260hp. It will be the most powerfull 2.0T in the lineup, second being the 220hp 2.0TFSI in the A4. I doubt they will produce an RS3.

Really? I was under the impression that VAG had issues getting the engine to fit, which is why the US is being cut a slice of the R32 pie instead of starting with the R36. Then again, I read that months ago...

The A3 already has a V6 in its lineup, the 3.2L VR6. It's basically a Golf R32. The S3 is going to get a 2.0TFSI tuned to about 260hp. It will be the most powerful 2.0T in the lineup, second being the 220hp 2.0TFSI in the A4. I doubt they will produce an RS3.
Alright, I'm sorry if I had difficulty spelling it. I apologise.

They won't make an RS3 - there is no market for one, and the R32 is already selling well over here. IMO, the S3 will also be pretty useless as the 3.2 gets 247bhp, and a half-decent chassis, and decent prices nearly-new.

The two I'm keeping an eye on - 3.2 V6 A3 and 3.2 V6 R32. God, you've got me drooling.
