"Gallery of Celebrities"


Here are some Mercedes-Benz cars that belonged to famous people.


1892 Daimler Motor Straßenwagen
This was the first motorcar sold by DMG in 1892 and it was purchased by Moulay Hassan I, the Sultan of Morocco from 1873 to 1894. He was the first person to buy a DMG motorcar and the first person of royalty to own a gasoline-engined automobile.
2-cylinders, 762cc, 2-horsepower @ 700 RPM, 22 km/h top speed



1926 Mercedes-Benz 24/100/140 PS Roadster
In December of 1926, industrialist Oscar Henschel bought this two-seater roadster with a supercharged engine. From 1924 he stood at the head of the Henschel Locomotive Commercial and later Aircraft Henschel & Sohn company in Kassel. Other prominent owners of 24/100/140 PS Roadsters were the King of Afghanistan, politician Gustav Stresemann, German actor Emil Jannings and juggler Enrico Rastelli.
6-cylinders, 6246cc, 100-horsepower @ 2,800 RPM (140-hp with Kompressor on), 120 km/h top speed







1932 Mercedes-Benz 770 "Großer Mercedes" Cabriolet F
This Grand Mercedes was driven by the former German Emperor Wilhlem II during his exile in the Netherlands. Instead of the Mercedes star, the coat of arms of the Hohenzollern family adorned the the radiator.
8-cylinders, 7655cc, 150-horsepower @ 2,800 RPM, 150 km/h top speed





1935 Mercedes-Benz 770 "Großer Mercedes" Pullman Limousine
This car was owned by Emperor Hirohito of Japan who received it in 1935. A particular feature of this Pullman is the special protective equipment which Mercedes-Benz fitted to the car. The occupants were protected from possible attacks by steel armor in the roof, doors and allround spezial glazing as thick as a finger.
8-cylinders, 7655cc, 150-horsepower @ 2,800 RPM, 150 km/h top speed



1952 Mercedes-Benz 190SL
The 190SL was one of the dream cars of the 1950s from Mercedes-Benz. It was based on the engineering of the three-box body sedans and stylistically looked like a mini 300SL Roadster. Famous owners of the Ismaili ruler Karim Aga Khan, Grace Kelly, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Gina Lollobrigida, Francoise Sagan and the infamous Rosemarie Nitribitt who is sadly the most famous "celebrity" associated with the 190SL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosemarie_Nitribitt).
4-cylinders, 1897cc, 105-horsepower @ 5,700 RPM, 171 km/h top speed









1959 Mercedes-Benz 300
This Mercedes-Benz 300 belonged to the German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer. It was his last official vehicle until he died in 1967. It was the 6th 300 which Adenauer owned since 1951. Germans have long identified this car as the "Adenauer Mercedes".

1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman Staatslimousine
Mercedes-Benz presented a new prestige car in 1963 - the 600. This fully armored state limousine with a raised roof was produced from 1965 as a unique specimen for the company's own car fleet. For more than 30 years it carried kings, chancellors and presidents on state visits.
V8, 6332cc, 250-horsepower @ 4,000 RPM, 120 km/h top speed









1974 Mercedes-Benz O 302 Mannschafts-Reisebus
For the 1974 Soccer World Cup in Germany, Mercedes-Benz provided the 16 participating nations with O 302 buses - each painted yellow and bearing the flag of the respective country. This is a replica of the German teams O 302 bus. The fate of the original remains a mystery.
6-cylinders, 11,581cc, 240-horsepower @ 2,200 RPM, 102 km/h top speed











1980 Mercedes-Benz 230G "Papamobil"
The Papamobil is perhaps the most famous Mercedes belonging to a VIP. It was built in 1980 for the visit of John Paul II to Germany to protect the pope from wind and rain. Following the assassination attempt in May 1981, the bodywork was furnished with bulletproof glazing.
4-cylinders, 2307cc, 100-horsepower @ 5,200 RPM, 131 km/h top speed









1984 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3 AMG
When Ringo Starr, the former drummer of the Beatles, bought this Mercedes-Benz 190E in 1984, the car was still a production version of the standard model. Starr had it converted into a 2.3 AMG in England. His "Baby Benz" got a spoiler, a sports steering wheel and a sports exhaust, colored light alloy rims and a more powerful 2.3-l engine.
4-cylinders, 2299cc, 150-horsepower @ 5,500 RPM, 211 km/h top speed







1988 Mercedes-Benz 500SL
German actor Hardy Krüger drove this 500SL from 1988 onwards. Many other movie stars also drive Mercedes-Benz (not only privately but also on camera). The R107 body style SL shown here was a prominent movie star of the 1980s being featured on films like "American Gigolo", "Beverly Hills Cop" as well as in the TV series "Dallas" and "Hart to Hart"
V8, 4793cc, 223-horsepower @ 4,750 RPM, 215 km/h top speed





1991 Mercedes-Benz 500SL
In December of 1991, Princess Diana acquired this 500SL. The wife of Prince Charles of Wales thus became the first member of the royal house to drive a foreign car privately. In response to criticism from the government, the trade unions and industry, she returned the car in September 1992.
V8, 4973cc, 326-horsepower @ 5,500 RPM, 250 km/h top speed (limited)










1997 Mercedes-Benz ML320
In May 1997 the Mercedes-Benz M-Class became a star in Steven Spielbergs "Lost World" movie. This is one of the cars that participated in the movie.
V6, 3199cc, 218-horsepower @ 5,700 RPM, 180 km/h top speed
