Re: Koenigsegg Breaks Breaks World Record For Production Cars

McLaren is just a tuner then. None of their cars have McLaren engines. Hell the McLaren F1 had a BMW engine. Pagani is a tuner too they use Mercedes AMG engines.
The point is that very few exotic car manufacturers have the resources to develop their own engines.

Well, I'm sorry, but I can't remember where exactly, but I'm pretty sure I read 17 sold cars at a reliable source.

EDIT/CORRECTION: It was 23 cars, and the source is here:
http://www.ameinfo.com/news/Detailed/54635.html

So what is "full production"? As you will notice when you start thinking about it, that is just a subjective matter. Is "full production" when 100 cars are sold? 100 cars in one year or in a 100 years? 1000 cars? There is no clear line. You could make one up, but that wouldn't change the following fact: The Koenigsegg is a street-legal car that comes straight from it's (one) primary manufacturer, which makes it a production car. Since it's the fastest car in the world to be "produced" in that fashion, it's the fastest production car in the world. The fact that Guiness have already approved the record confirms this.

The so called "false claims" have just been proven (more or less) at the Nardo Prototipo track. Calling the 806 hp engine an "overtuned Ford engine" is a total over-simplification. Read the link given by Redcoat and you will see why.

Somehow I don't think many people in this forum will be thinking of buying the Koenigsegg, but thanks all the same for your concern. Here's anyway what I've found on Koenigsegg service:

SERVICE
Full factory and retailer support. Service intervals: Oil, filter and general inspection, suspension geometry check, sparkplug change every 10,000 km. Cooling fluid every 24 months. Brake fluid every 12 months. Retailers provide in-house service in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. Koenigsegg has a flying mechanic on stand-by. A GSM satellite uplink can be provided, so engine statistics can be distance monitored from the local service station or the Koenigsegg HQ.

I got it from here: http://www.autoemirates.com/SpecialR...Koenigsegg.asp

look i know im new...but...can this guy read?

or is he agreeing with me?

im teh confused.

build a car from scratch and put a crate engine in it, certify it for mass production and the road, pass safety and emissions, build and sell a few = production car

3rd party takes a car, slaps enormous power adders on (turbos, nitrous, blower or whatever), adds an aero kit and some suspension = tuner car

how hard is that?

and the McLaren F1 engine developed by BMW is very VERY different to the BMW V12 it was based off....BMW Motorsport and McLaren did some beautiful work on it. I think its interesting that interviews on from the time with the Macca F1 designers say they could have easily hit 800hp with turbocharging...but it would have compromised the car. They wanted the ULTIMATE car...yes the fastest, but one that could be driven by someone who wasnt a pro-driver without imminent death.

if you keep that in mind when you consider that TVR withdrew the Speed 12 because that kind of power was too much for a production car - it really says something about the K-segg if reviews say it is driveable. If TVR and McLaren thought 800hp was too much for a normal person to handle, K-segg must have put some serious work in.

He's quite obviously agreeing with you, using Speedo's arguement against him by taking well known 'true' exotics and deconstructing them to fit the same 'tuner' mold Speedo's claiming the Koeingsegg falls into, to show how ridiculous the aforementioned arguement is.

Yeah I was taking Speedo's argument and using it against him.

Re: Koenigsegg Breaks Breaks World Record For Production Cars

I still like having the Sledgehammer as the fastest production car, even if it is a tuner car. Quoted from callaway:

"A derivative of the Twin Turbo Corvette, the 880 hp Callaway SledgeHammer, recorded a speed of 254.76 mph on Ohio's Transportation Research Center track, still the fastest street driveable car in the world."

Soon as someone beats that, I'll be impressed.

Re: Koenigsegg Breaks Breaks World Record For Production Cars

I have seen in many car forums a guy showing up and slamming koenigsegg with same false accusation pattern. I dont know if this is just incidental or are some car companies in red alert because of Koenigsegg.

Before this Nardo record there was at least 25 cars ordered and waiting to be ready.

Here's some other info:
http://www.koenigsegg.com/company/index.asp

There is also a new video and plenty of other information...

I rate this car very Swedish because of parts used and r&d done there.

Re: Koenigsegg Breaks Breaks World Record For Production Cars

I'm hoping that the bugatti veyron will claim the title when it comes out. Its rumored to hit 400kph from the factory, and is capable of 450+kph if there were tires that could handle it.

Re: Koenigsegg Breaks Breaks World Record For Production Cars

I read in some magazine that the Nissan Skyline gtr nismo z-tune was the new fastest production car?? anyone else read that?
1/4mile in 10.06seconds or something. not too sure on the top speed, maybe it was just fastest for 1/4mile
anyone else know about this?

I don't think the Nismo tuned Skyline is considered a production car. There have been Ligenfelter Corvette's, and Hennessey Viper's that are capable of running 8's in the 1/4 and are still street drivable.
