BMW Recalling 200,000 Vehicles

WASHINGTON (AP) -- BMW AG is recalling 200,000 vehicles over concerns that the front passenger air bag may not deploy in a crash.

The German automaker says the recall involves the 2006 3 Series, the 2004-2006 5 Series, and the 2004-2006 X3 compact sport utility vehicle

I wonder why only the 2006 3 series? Did they change their airbag system that year?

Yes, that is strange. 2006 was the first year of E90, and they upgraded the engines for 2007 but I didn't think anything changed in the interior for 2007. Maybe only a specific batch of the affected part is faulty.

Look how BMW is compensating their clients for the recall:

"To respond to the problem, BMW said it would extend the warranty to 10 years without any mileage limit for the following vehicles: 2006 6 Series, 2006 3 Series with standard seat, 2004-2005 Z4, 2004-2006 7 Series, 2006 X5 and 2004-2006 5 Series with comfort seats."

Didn't think they did that for the X5 when it had 18 different recalls or so, did they?
