Is BMW borrowing designers from KIA now?

I sense a strong competitive opening for a revamped G6.
If the Malibu can win rave reviews, a next generation G6 can toss this <bleep> on it's <censored>.

The propeller premium is getting ridiculous.

Since this thing is probably made in Europe, they have the strong Euro/weak dollar working against them. Not a good time to be introducing a European made economy car. This is why VW is hurting so much.

Spend $30k to have everyone see you in the "cheap" BMW. No thanks, I'd rather buy a good used 3 series. (If I were in the market for a BMW.)

G6 and 1 series are not even close to being in the same class. G6 would need to shrink down two classes.

Could find an 850csi for less...

I'm disappointed though...$36k for an entry level Bimmer? Then again an entry level Cadillac...but I'd take the Cadillac

What makes this an economy car though? Because it's the smallest one in the BMW line-up?
I really think they're just offering the "BMW experience" on a smaller scale. Compact luxury will be a new emerging market within the next 10 years, I can tell you that.

I do agree with you though on that the exchange rate is what's hurting the price of this the most. And with other's sentiments that it's still priced a tad high...

Re: BMW announces 2008 BMW 1 Series Coupe pricing for U.S.

I said in the other 135i thread that $35,000 is less than what we pay here for a 120d M Sport, you guys have it too good.

What you're all forgetting is that it's a (In the case of the 135i) twin turbo Coupe with V8 levels of power and torque, but also a chassis that ranks amongst the best FR platforms of all time, I'd say the price is well justified.

LOL@even comparing it to a Wrong Wheel Drive car like the G6.

30K? I thought this was supposed to be the bargain BMW. Way to degrade your brand

Let's put this in perspective here........back in the day when Cadillac was still the Standard of the World (late 80's)......the Eldorado had been shrunk to something resembling a micro machine

sitting on a 191.2" wheelbase (1991 model pictured)......it's roughly within the same size range as the 1-series.......and you know what the factory price on one of these was??? $31,245 (1991)......now that's not accounting for inflation or anything else.....but still.....

Don't complain about the 1-series price please.......not when you're getting so much more......to put it another way......you're getting 3-series goods at CTS prices......so cut the Germans a lil slack.....

Re: BMW announces 2008 BMW 1 Series Coupe pricing for U.S.

Even without the twin turbos, the BMW straight 6 is pure silky smooth power. Still one of the best engines of any mass produced consumer passenger car. The 128 will not be a slouch, and the 135 should blow the doors off some cars with larger engines.
