Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

Autocar has obtained tantalising details of a secret Bentley off-roader powered by a 450bhp 6.0-litre W12 engine that, if put into production, could radically alter the status quo at the upper end of the four-wheel-drive market.

Re: Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

i find it quite funny that many of the current high-performence SUV's are all on one platform, and several more rumored ones will be on it too... Cayenne, Touareg, Q7, the rumored lambo suv, and this one... and i think at one point maserati was supposed to get a variant... at least it'd be safe to say this is the fastest SUV platform! anyway, i don't think bently needs an SUV, maybe try a wagon and a smaller coupe/roadster.

Re: Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

I have wondered, what is the difference between bhp and hp? What does the B stand for anyways? British?

the b is for brake. in other words the horsepower generated at the drive wheels. cars tend to lose hp through the drivetrain so there are 2 measurments. hp is for flywheel horse power and bhp for the drive wheel horse power

(correct me if im wrong anyone)

Re: Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

Nooooooo!!!!!

Hummers are BAD for the 'mother earth' because they are American.. war mongering bad America Marines but Bentley SUV's and Landrover SUV's using GM old pushrod V8s, good old Gwaggens selling for $100,000.00 K or more are OK for the environmentally conscious family of a certain 2004 presidential hopeful to own..

Its just anothor Tuoreg, Cayyenne, from VW if you ask me, I'd rather a H3 with I-5

I like it, and atleast to the average consumer it looks nothing like the other varients. I do hope lambo doesn't make one as their verion is really ugly.

Both are measured at the flywheel. 'bhp' = SAE GROSS and is without any accessories and was used prior to the 1970's. 'hp' = SAE NET. SAE GROSS is a useless metric.

Here is a recent C&D article about this: http://members.cox.net/harddrivin1le...MOPARCSERE.JPG

Oh great... yet another Touareg.
VW is killing Bentley!!

Serves VW right if the next gen ESV Platinum will kick Bentley's ass.

Re: Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

Bentley already did this.

The Bentley Dominator was built in limited numbers, mainly for the Sultan of Brunei. Basically, it used a Range Rover as it's basis, but used Bentley's powertrain coupled to the RR's 4x4 system. Ah, to be king....

Seriously, from the pics rendered of the "upcoming" model, it looks better than this.....and has more of a Bentley pedigree than simply warming up a Rover product. I don't know how many more ultra-lux utes we need on the market, however......

Re: Is a Bentley 4x4 on the way?

I wouldnt be suprised, it would just be another Toureg based SUV from the Audi/VW group. The Porsche Chayenne and Audi Q7 allready share this platform. I think it would be a smart move, then rappers and would spend less money on Escalades and Navigators, and even more on the Bentley SUV just because of the name Bentley.
