Audi A4
What do you all think about the Audi A4? I have the possibility to look into buying a 2002 A4 1.8t. I just wanted some comments or suggestions…

Re: Audi A4
The perceived quality of the A4 is top notch.
Overall quality is in the dumps. Expect to be in the shop.

Re: Audi A4
I've heard that Audi is getting better quality...it's those 200-2003 models that were horrible. My friend had a 97 A6 and it's still in top shape today.

Re: Audi A4
9-3 has more room, nicer interior, than FWD 1.8T. Honestly, some Audis like the A4 and A6 look fat. 05' A6 looks curvacious, like the A8. The A4 is still trimming down; I'd get the 9-3. Also, the 9-3 has that display where when in the back seat you can see the MPH etc. Its fun to watch, I've been in one.

I totally agree. The 9-3 is a far better value than an A4. It has most of the feautres of an A4, is roomier, has more power. And when Epsilon 2 comes out, the 9-3 will get 4WD and a more powerful V6. And it's GM car. ![]() And the 9-3 Convertible is about 10K less than a comparable A4 convertible.

Re: Audi A4
The 9-3 deffinatly has a more aggressive look compared to the VW looking A4. The slightly flared fenders, the short overhangs, the nice interior, and the more powerful engine are all signs IMO that the 9-3 is a better car.

Re: Audi A4
The 06 A4 still looks like a giant bubble on wheels. You have to stretch out to the design themes to at least the A6 for it to look good, if you can ignore the giant gasping grill. The front bumper on the current A4 is so obvious its really ugly.

Re: Audi A4
Thank you guys for your input. I actually had been thinking more along the lines of the 9-3 as well.

Re: Audi A4
Is the A3 based on the A4? I love the A3 3-door model. It looks about the size of the A4, but with a different name I suspect it's smaller. I like it so much I'd consider buying it even with the poor reliability record (and if I had any money). Not too many cars I'd say that about! Also, does anyone know if the A3 is coming to North America?

Re: Audi A4
My brother owns a 98 A4 2.8 (?) 5-speed, he loves the car. I've been in it a few times, they are built solid. He hasn't had any problems with it at all.
From what I've read, the 1.8T isn't a very smooth engine, most automotive publications say it is noisy and doesn't provide enough power (170 HP I think).
