Anyone see an S5 yet

I happened to be driving by an Audi dealer on the way home from a Christmas party last night and my head did a swivel as I thought I saw an S5 sitting on the lot. Spun around to go take a look. Unfortunately it was up against a fence so I couldn't check out the sticker. This car was all white which isn't my favorite but dang does this car look sleak. It almost looks like a smaller Austin Martin for some reason. From what I could see it didn't really have much badging but it did have a nice little V8 logo on the side so I guess that it had to be an S model ? I wonder if Audi is going to put in the same powerplant that the S3 has so they could have a cheaper version. I heard these S5's can hit $50k which is too much money in my opinion. I wouldn't mind seeing a 260hp 2.0T with DSG and no AWD to keep the price reasonable. I'm not a huge FWD fan but if it knocked the price down I think it would be worth it on the lower powered cars.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I've seen quite a lot of S5's around here, they've been on sale since September, they were sort of a supporting act to the R8 launch.

Really nice looking cars in the metal as well.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I'm disappointed by it. I've always had a soft spot for Audis, but the A5/S5 somehow comes across very "Sebring Coupe"-ish to me. If I weren't such a dang tightwad I'd pop for a Q7 for our new family wagon!

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I haven't seen a single A5 or S5, yet.

Lots of 6-Series running around, though. I've been seeing quite a few M6s, as well.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I didn't see it on the road, however while passing the Audi dealership today I saw one tucked away. I was extremely surprised that it wasn't on the main display pad out front...

I need to walk around it some time though, I can't say that I was extremely impressed from the slight glance I got of it today, the front end appeared a little bulbous...

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I've seen them both at the dealerships and on the road around here..

Nice car...really nice in fact it sort of reminds me a lot of a small Bently coupe..

I recently considered buying one but in the end I didn't think it wasn't sporty enough.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I seen 1 on Christmas eve at the mall. It was the Blue pearl color that Audi has. Increadable car IMO. I think once the A5 is released you will be able to get it in the high 30's with few options. From what I have read it will come standard with 3.6/S-tronic and Quattro. To bad you wont be able to get the new 2.0T/6-speed manual and Quattro, to get the price even lower, especially since the new 2.0T will be in the mid 200's in HP! And there will be no FWD model as the engine is mounted longitudinal. But I could be wrong, isnt the A4 engines mounted longitudinal? And you can get a FWD A4 correct???

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

The Audi A5 can be had in FWD.

The Audi S5 (and all other S cars) comes with Quattro AWD standard.

The VWs/Audis with longitudinally mounted engines use Torsen AWD.

The VWs/Audis with transversely mounted engines use Haldex AWD.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

^^^Oh, thanks for clearing that up! But I thought I heard the A5 will only be available with Quattro. I hope your right though, having it with a fwd option should keep the price down! If only Audi would offer the 2.0t and 6-speed manual in it! Oh well, the new A4 on the new B8 platform(new A/S5 platform) will offer the 2.0t/M6 with fwd.

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

I saw a S5 at one of our detail events in Portland, it looks WAY better in person, although it is still pretty safe as far as coupes go (read: bland)

Re: Anyone see an S5 yet

Well, I went and walked around it today, I really like the interior. The materials look top notch, The leather was done in red, and dash and other accents in black. It was very attractive. The exterior looked very nice, however I am still getting caught up with the front end. It is indeed a litttle bulbous, much better up close that it was while I was driving by it, however, I still think that if there was a little de-bulking in the front it would be a pretty mean looking machine.

One of my neighbors has an S5. I love the looks, and the sound from the V8 is excellent -- he launched it fairly firmly out of the apartment parking lot. Its larger than I thought, and looks taut and muscular.

I've driven one! Its a nice car, handled well. It had aftermarket 19" HRE wheels and overall was pretty quick.
