911 Cabriolets Coming to Detroit
Two new Cabriolets from Porsche are set to make their sheet metal debut at the upcoming Detroit auto show in January. The new 911 Carrera Cabriolet and Carrera S Cabriolet will emerge as 2005 models; both feature a new electric top design that makes the cars capable of going top-down or top-up in 20 seconds and on the go at speeds of up to 30 mph. The German sports carmaker says its Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) including the Porsche Sound Package Plus (CD radio with nine speakers), larger wheels and a wind deflector will all be standard equipment on the new Cabrios as well. The Carrera S Cabrio, with its 3.8-liter flat six, will rush to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds; the Carrera Cabrio has a 3.6-liter flat six that does the same in 5.2 seconds. Available for purchase in mid-March, the Cabrio and Carrera S Cabrio are priced at $79,100 and $88,900, respectively.

Re: 911 Cabriolets Coming to Detroit
Those 0-60 numbers are bs. Car and driver, whose employees are paid to drive and talk about cars, got the carrera coupe, not s, to get to 60 in 5.3. What makes you think the convertible will do it in 4.9?
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=2 05 Vette vs 05 911 Quote: It also trailed the Vette in every speed contest except top-gear acceleration, where the Vette's hugely tall top gear puts the Chevy at a disadvantage. You have to grin and bear the gut-wrenching, axle-hopping launch to make the Porsche go its quickest, but the 911 seems to outperform its spec sheet. The power-to-weight ratio is 23 percent poorer than the Vette's, but the 911's rear weight bias keeps things close until speeds rise. At 60 mph, the Porsche's 4.3-second time is only 0.2 second slower than the Vette's, but at 150, the gap is 3.5 seconds. |
