Very sharp car! That's a better 5-series than BMW's own. :-)

I'm not wild about the new Jetta's exterior styling, either. This Passat is quite sweet, however.

I love the interior! That is definatly one of their better ones. As for the exterior....well I dont really like it at all. I think thats going to turn off many loyal VW owners...

So lets see. Toyota lied about recalls. Lied about their HP ratings... I wonder how much truth is in their milage ratings..

well, that's not true, because the vw loyalists are simply blind: they will keep buying them like is no tomorrow.

Well, another bland car... the current Passat is more distinctive.

Ah, so true, but thats not going to help them gain any new sales. VW should have kept evolving the current looks rather then going off into the blue like this. They cant afford to take risks.

Re: 2006 VW Passat: Official Factory Photos

I personally think it looks pretty sharp, the exterior... the shot of the rear I'm not so sure of, but the front looks better... the old Passat I never took to...

In one sense, you beat me to the punch, GN6.

I like Chris Bangle's work at BMW, for the most part, so it should come as no surprise that I fancy the exterior and the interior of the new Passat.

That being said, I will take my mid-sized car with a Saturn badge on the front and the word Aura placed on the trunk...

It looks like we are in the minority here, but I agree. I think it's sharp, inside and out.

I'd probably buy the Aura, too. I've always maintained the sole reason to buy imports is in the absence of a suitable domestic alternative. I wanted a nice, small, sporty hatch. The GTI was one of the only viable options, and my only first-hand import experience. I love the car, and only the presence of a Saturn "Astra" could pry it out of my hands. Yeah, Ford had Focus, but unfortuantely for the blue-oval crew, so did my vision !!!

However, while Aura would get my nod for being "domestic" (may be assembled overseas), take away that advantage and I'd go for the Passat. The exterior is just as nice, but the interior is super. Just when you think you've seen all angles of automotive interior design, here's this production-worthy VW interior that has a very fresh, modern theme. It echoes the bright, contemporary interior furnishings you might find in a renovated loft. Very nice.
