2006 BMW M5: Unleashing the ultimate sports sedan

Roadandtrack.com

"A 5.0-liter V-10 engine that delivers 507 horsepower via normal aspiration (no turbo or supercharger gewgaws here). That’s the big news for the all-new M5. But there’s so much more: A third-generation 7-speed sequential SMG gearbox with Launch Control; an all-new bi-VANOS variable valve timing system; a new console-mounted Power button with three settings: P400 for 400 bhp, P500 for the full 507 bhp or P500 Sport that adds even quicker throttle response; giant ABS-assisted 14.7-in. front and 14.6-in. rear vented/cross-drilled brake rotors, and the list goes on and on. Just about the only bad thing associated with the new M5 is that we won’t see it stateside until late 2005 at the earliest. Well, that and the car’s anticipated list price of around $90,000. Fortunately, Senior Editor Kim Wolfkill’s driving impression and technical analysis and Stephane Foulon’s images of this fourth-generation M5 vividly capture the world’s premiere sports sedan until the real thing eventually arrives."

I would much rather have a conventional manual transmission instead of an SMG in this car.

Other than that it kicks ass!

No one mensioned the weak torque it makes though, just wait for the CTS-V Supercharged to kick this baby back to Bavaria.

Isn't it funny? The $52,500 2005 CTS-V already meets the performance numbers of the upcoming $105,000 2006 BMW M5 (again, which I fancy). An even funnier thing is that that price was quoted earlier in the year at 86,400 Euros; with the Euro gaining against the dollar, the gap between these two competent cars grows even wider to almost $65,000!

Hmmm, I wonder if the arguably better interior is worth the $52,500 premium.

Since when is the CTS-V going to be supercharged?

Is there something you aren't telling us Tahoe?

Re: 2006 BMW M5: Unleashing the ultimate sports sedan

I think TaHoE means the STS-V.

Last year when I was helping my mom shop for a convertible, we decided to check out a 325Ci at one of the local BMW dealers and I had the chance to test drive a pre-owned M5. All I can say was WOW. I may not like the new BMW's iDrive, but the power delivery and overall performance of a BMW is nearly unbeatable.

CTS-V Supercharged is basicly buying or adding something that will raise the horsepower of the car. I think..

No, I didn't mean the STS-V, in the next iteration the CTS-V will have either a Supercharged LS2 or LS3, I read in in a Road & Track Article, along with a computer rendering of the '07 model.

Not to shabby but i kinda like the Caddy's CTS, STS alittle better then this. Doesn't look like it's all that new. Maybe if i saw it in a different color. But i like it.

Probably *not* supercharged.

Very likely ~6.x liter V-8, OHV as a limited version, getting in the mid 500HP range, the regular V will keep with the LS2.
