Tundra in Craftsman Truck

Congrats to Mark Martin on his win. In bigger news, how about the domination by, of all things, a Toyota. They took the top 6 spots in the points championship, and 7 of the top 10.Why does anybody think it won't happen in Cup as well. It's not that I believe it will, but let's hear some thoughts.

Re: Tundra in Craftsman Truck

The Craftsman truck series is a lot different then the Nextel Series. The Truck Series is really hurting in good sponsorships, some even struggle to get one main sponsor. These sponsor's help the teams in R&D. When Toyota entered the Truck Series, it brought a lot of money with it and thus Toyota teams have good trucks and teams. The Nextel Series on the other hand as numerous sponsors with tons of money and thus good cars and great teams. I am not saying that Toyota won't be able to compete, but I am saying that it won't dominate like it has in the Truck Series.

Re: Tundra in Craftsman Truck

You can't take manufacturer battles in nascar seriously because nascar isn't about the manufacturers, its about the personalities not the cars, also making sure the "competition" is constantly equal, including when toyota came into the cts. When I see any toyota street performance vehicle ever produced with a pushrod v8 I will pay attention. Until then, I see it as a marketing gimmick, like many other things in modern nascar.

I'll be watching alms and grand am (i know owned by nascar) where at least u can see a dohc toyota competing against an ohv pontiac against a flat six porsche, actually reflecting street performance philosophies.

Re: Tundra in Craftsman Truck

in the truck series, nascar got them a lot of help from the other manufacturers and teams. This time they arent getting anything. Because by 07 they will be running the next gen nascar for one,and most of the manufacturers will be running different cars and new engines.

Hopefully, the truck series won't be a prelude to the cup series with Toyota. The Tundra has dominated truck racing, it has to be fairer for the cars. Why can't NASCAR see that?

What do you thimk you mean by next gen Nascar? You do realize the Craftsman Truck engines and Cup engines are the same, right? The only difference being compression, roller cam, and carburetor size. As for Nascar giving them any help, I've said before, they play by the same rules as everybody else, and if they really wanted secrets,, they can buy them off of E-Bay.

I know they run the same engines -100hp or so. Next GEN nascar = the Car of tomorrow. I posted that so I wouldnt have to keep replying to the morons that think all the brands will be running the same body

Wow...just wow. I didn't know they were that good in the truck series.
Of course, I don't watch NASCAR. I can't buy any of those racecars. Therefore, I don't watch them.

Re: Tundra in Craftsman Truck

I'm not much of a Nascar fan myself, would rather watch Grand Am or ALMS as someone mentioned, or even F1.

But if Toyota becomes successful in Nextel Cup, what then? I mean I'm no expert by any means, but I've heard that the Nextel Cup Toyota teams have some big sponsors behind them like Burger King, Domino's, and Red Bull.

1. Toyota in CTS bought the best teams and drivers. Toyota in cup has a bunch of new teams, rookies, hasbeens, and never will bes.

2. Of the 7 Toyota teams, only the BDR #22 has a guaranteed spot in the first five races due to last years owners points.. You will the rest will have to qualify their way in.

Yes they do, Red Bull even owns its own team. Burger King on the other hand has been a main sponsor before and that car didn't do so well. The thing with Toyota is that if they don't come out of the box competive, Toyota will throw money at the problem until it is fixed, and we all know Toyota has plenty of money.

Last reports on the car of tomorrow ("New Nascar" as some people call it) won't be ready until 08 if I understood it correctly. I might be wrong on that though.

It won't even have to go that far. NASCAR will make sure the competition is "fair" before toyota would even have a chance to struggle.

You hit the nail right on the head, that is right, Nascar is going to make sure the Toyota is competitive, just like they did with the trucks ,nascar has just about taken the chevy and dodges out of the competittion . As a matter affact GM is cutting back sponsership for there truck program for 2007. that ought tell you somethang Money talks and the same will happan in nextell cup, just give it two or three years.

Re: Tundra in Craftsman Truck

Your all fogetting that NASCAR won't - and I stress - won't let Toyota dominate. It's been done before, and repeated here numerous times. As soon as one manufacturer (car brand) begins to dominate, NASCAR will impose a new rule. Back in the late 80s/early 90s, I believe the TBird Ford was racing was doing extremely well (or it could have been later with the Taurus). Point is, GM cried foul and NASCAR ended up imposing a bigger spoiler on the Fords.

There is no way France and co. will let Toyota dominate good ol' NASCAR.
