Re: The Official NASCAR 2015 Thread

Please, NASCAR. For all things good in this world, dump this duma$$ qualifying format for Daytona and Talladega. I don't mind the group format, per se, but this waiting on pit road for the clock to run down is idiotic. My personal preference would be single car runs over a 2 lap average. When the "lead" car is at the center of the backstretch of their 2nd lap then the next car pulls out to start their q-run. If they want to stick to the group format than cluster them in packs based on fastest practice speeds. Say the top 8 practice speeds is Group 1, the next 8 fastest are Group 2, etc. Give each group 4 laps and then take the average of those 4 laps per car and there's your q-speed/position. Then to stop this dumb sitting around on pit road you give each group a 1 minute timer. If you car does not cross the pit road exit line within 1 minute of your session starting your time doesn't count.

I'm fairly certain it will be gone next year. There wasn't one single driver that had anything positive to say about it.

Nice changes they made the the Xfinity and Camping World Series for the group qualifying. I imagine if it does well, the Cup cars will see it at Talladega in the spring.

Re: The Official NASCAR 2015 Thread

In a stunning move just two days before the season-opening Daytona 500, NASCAR suspended Kurt Busch indefinitely on Friday after a judge said the former champion almost surely strangled and beat an ex-girlfriend last fall and there was a "substantial likelihood" of more domestic violence from him in the future.

NASCAR said Busch would not be allowed to race or participate in any NASCAR activities until further notice given the "serious nature of the findings and conclusions" made by the Delaware judge.

"Kurt Busch and his Stewart-Haas Racing team are fully aware of our position and why this decision was made," the series said in a statement. "We will continue to respect the process and timetable of the authorities involved."

In a 25-page opinion explaining why he issued the no-contact order this week, Family Court Commissioner David Jones concluded that it was more likely than not that Busch abused Patricia Driscoll by "manually strangling" her and smashing her head into a wall inside his motorhome at Dover International Speedway last September.

Busch has denied the alleged assault, which is the subject of a separate criminal investigation, but the judge said Driscoll's version of the incident was more credible than Busch's.

Re: The Official NASCAR 2015 Thread

    Guilty until proven innocent?

    Something smells.............

The simple fact that this incident came about because she came to the track, un-invited after they had split-up, sits wrong with me.

Jones noted that Driscoll presented false testimony that conflicted with that of a chaplain who saw her immediately after the alleged assault and said he didn't see any marks or bruises on her. Jones nevertheless said he didn't believe Driscoll's false testimony amounted to perjury or intentional falsehood.

The judge concluded that Busch did not appear to be a prototypical batterer who uses violence to subjugate or control, but that the incident instead was most likely a "situational" event in which Busch was unable to cope and to control his tendency to act out violently in response to stress and frustration, causing him to "snap."

At the same time, however, Jones said he believes there's real possibility that Busch will lash out again.

"Given respondent's passion for his racing career and his intemperate and frequently violent reactions to seemingly minor racing setbacks, the court finds that there exists a likelihood of future acts of domestic violence against petitioner in the event that respondent's racing career is damaged or destroyed as the result of his having been found to have committed an act of domestic violence in this case or any subsequent criminal prosecution," Jones wrote.

Jones added that because Busch has a propensity to lose control in response to disappointing or frustrating situations involving racing and that those who love him are likely to be around him at those times "there is a substantial likelihood of acts of domestic violence by respondent against future intimate partners.

Busch's attorneys filed a motion late Thursday asking Jones to re-open the Family Court hearing so that they can present testimony from three acquaintances of Driscoll who they say were previously reluctant to get involved but have now come forward to contradict statements Driscoll has made about her relationship with Busch.

They should have let them race to the finish. 4 or 88 would have passed Logano.

I thought the same thing, about letting them race to the end, and they did for several seconds. The wreck was over a mile beyond the finish, plenty of time to slow down.

I'm not sure they would havee caught him though, his car was really fast at the end, it looked like he could pull away on demand.

Glad for Lagano, overall a good race. Surprised to see the 48 take a pit road penalty. They usually get away with being over the wall early.

Agreed. 88 had by far the best car in the race.

Re: The Official NASCAR 2015 Thread

Looks like we finally get to see some Busch on Sunday.

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nascar-...1--nascar.html

While I can't say I have ever "liked" Kurt, I certainly never hated him (don't ask me about his brother) but after this ordeal, I'm actually kinda rooting for him.

I hope he's able to get past this and hold it together, I know if you put me in some of the situations his been in over the years, I can honestly say a few times, I might have acted worse.

It truly is scary where your career could nearly come to a complete end based on an accusation before any police investigation is conducted.
