Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

How about this thread this year. We aren't even to the 3rd race of the season, and already to page 31. Just about 1/3 of the way to the magic page 100. We might need an Official "NASCAR 2008.5" thread by sometime after Talladega in the spring. Some really good chat and banter going on here. Just like sitting at the corner tap.

WHOAAAAAAAAA NELLY............ Come on now, you cant hate "The Glen"!! LOL. IMO, a road course, especially Watkins, is fricken sweet!! Its a fast fast track, the drivers are constantly shifting, blocking, sliding, hard braking, bumping...... among other things. Its no wonder you see a certain group of drivers always at the front, it takes that special skill. I would certainly watch Watkins over Pocono any day. Try racing at the Glen in a Sim game, its a hoot.

You need to the my posts better next time. I said Dale wouldn't stay and just "ride around".

He would have retired by 03 at the latest. He wouldn't have been as competitive as people think for the simple reason of RCR being behind the times of teams like Roush and Hendrick. He would be in the top-10 or so, but I don't think even he had anything for the run that Roush and Hendrick have been on.

RCR is just now beginning to crawl back to the top, but it takes time. Look at Yates racing, they'r ein the same boat RCR was a few years ago.

To each their own I guess. Love it all you want, but I'd rather take a nap.

Ok, as long as while your taking that nap, your rooting for a Bowtie.

I agree, I like it for same reasons. You get to see the drivers and their cars do things that you don't see them do almost any other weekend. Watch a driver drive in to the corner a little harder to try to make a block, only to watch the guy he past stay patient and get right past him in the very next turn. There is a lot of on track and pit road stratagy going on during a road course race to me at least.

Looks like Cali will stay the same for a while. ISC says it's not even in the plans or has even been talked about by them.

That's sh1t! He should get his 100 points back immeadiately, then a deduction if appeal is overturned. I'm thinking it will be overturned or possibly halved. Opinions???

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

From looking back in the past, when was the last time they took back a penalty from a team? I still want to know, if he's just not the driver of the car, he's the teams owner, how is he or his crew chief or car chief not checking that everything on that car is up to snuff. I know they got the pieces from a supplier that works for all the manufactors, but you know that Dodge is going to switch nose this year, and the new one hasn't be okay'd by NASCAR, I just think there is some blame in my eyes that goes to him. But if Dodge made a good enough case for how he got the wrong nose clip, then I could see a deduction in points go from 100 to 50, and $100k to $50k. Hell, even Jim Beam was getting into it and getting a pettition signed on line to send to NASCAR to show their support.
They have said from day one that anything that isn't by the book with this new car was going to get hit, and hit hard with penalties. I could see how a nose of the car or what the #48 and #24 team did last year messing with the bodies of the car would get you the big penalty, but when Jr.'s team got busted I think it was at Dover for the improper wing brackets, I would like to know what kind of advantage did the give the car? I'm not a Jr. fan by any means, but it just seemed like that wouldn't be such a huge thing, brackets. If it made the wing get more downforce, then yes, a penalty should be given out, but if not, I'm not sure what the made the difference in.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

Where is everyone the past few days? Has everyone gone MIA like Old Dood? There was qualifying, a Nationwide race, practice and lots of naked women on the strip in Vegas and no one has commented. Wonder if Mariner has a laptop with him so he can update us before he gets home.

Glad to see all of Mikey's teams get in the race. Need to get in the next two races and have good finishes to get locked in the top-35. That makes me wonder, if DJ doesn't have to use a past champ provisional in the 5 races he's going to run, will he use them later to help get a car in the field for someone? Ala, Bill Elliott's stupid thing for the Wood Bros.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

anybody see the article on roush and harvick lambasting toyota for having "significant" horsepower advantage and then all "NASCAR" saying that there are no "significant" advantages.

If NASCAR has the proof and they are so confident why is it such a secret... typical NASCAR. They want toyota to suceed, i wouldn't be surprised if toyota themselves gave NASCAR a HUGE amount of money to make toyota's problems "go away". You can't tell me that joe gibbs is so much better than red bull, davis, and mwr becuase of suspension packages right? I mean give me a break here.

I mean how bad is it that DW came and said it point blank at Daytona that they had 20 more hp. I suppose he just made that up. So now who's right, the broadcaster spitting out statistics or the scum of nascar hiding or manipulating the facts?

I suppose Kyle Brush is sooooo good that he has the talent to drive away on the straight away right, so much talent to drive on the straight? Common, the body's are the same so either Gibb's knows more than Hendrick does about the suspension or they are making more power, it's really that simple.

edit:
smart move nascar, bring in an asian manufacturer, create some massive controversy and increase the popularity of the sport. Seems to have worked. can't go anyplace without seeing toyota this or that and nascar in the same sentence. there's more press in the first 3 races over toyota being so much better than there was last year when chevy owned the sport.
