My wife was pissed. I was in the shop and she came out and told me about the problems. She want NASCAR to stop the race and just go home.

I am glad that I passed on the tickets. I would have hate to waste $200 plus the gas.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

YEAH! No more Mexico!!

INDIANAPOLIS - NASCAR will not return to Mexico next season, ending the four-year experiment with the Nationwide Series in Mexico City, but the sanctioning body will not leave empty-handed.

NASCAR officials confirmed Sunday that due to a variety of factors, including the growth and stability of NASCAR's touring series in Mexico and lower attendance at the Nationwide event, the road course race at the Hermanos Rodriguez Autodrome will not appear on 2009 series schedule.

"This was never about a single event. The big idea was to strengthen motorsports in Mexico," said Robbie Weiss, a NASCAR vice president with responsibilities in broadcasting and the company's international efforts. "We didn't create racing in Mexico and it has a long heritage, but in reality the racing market down there was very fragmented.

"The idea was could we help relaunch and strengthen the Mexican motorsports community with the big idea of launching a national championship that would be the most significant championship in the country."

What do ya'll think about DEI and Truex? If he leaves, who will be left? Theresa will be left with a very quiet garage.....

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

What a race...

I was in the yard all day yesterday and came in at 5PM to rest. Since I hadn't been following NASCAR all week-end, I couldn't understand what the point of the "competition yellow" with something like 40 laps to go.

Well, after watching a little more and then watching the highlights later on, I'm glad I didn't sit around to watch that race.

NASCAR made themselves look REALLY bad yesterday. It reminds of the US GP from a few years ago when Michelin cars pulled out at the last minute because they had a tire issue. NASCAR should have let the cars race, forcing drivers to put every 10 to 12 laps for new tires under GREEN flag conditions (or yellow if something happened on track). At least that would have put a small amount of strategy into play...

I also don't get the point of having a tire test in April. Don't temperatures play a part of how tire works at a track. Wouldn't temperatures at the brickyard be a lot more cooler in April than late July??

I'd pay $100 to hear what Tony Stewart has to say...

I don't think that would've been too safe for the drivers. I understand your rationale, but I actually think NASCAR did a good job of playing safe.

NASCAR and Goodyear made a horrific blunder when they picked this tire for the race. Instead of watching a driver die, they kept a bad race as safe as possible.

If I'm not mistaken Goodyear builds Douglas tires under contract for Walmart/Sams Club. I have a set and they are the noisiest, worst riding/running tires I've ever owned.

Said on the radio broadcast yesterday that Truex signed with DEI for two years if I heard it right. Usual 20th +- place finish yesterday in a race that was continually bunched up due to restarts, not a good showing at all for DEI in general.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

NASCAR should have three different standardized tires for a season. The softest being hard enough to last 20 laps at Indy(or Daytona, or whatever track is the hardest on tires), the next 25 laps and the hardest being 30 laps. Each one with a little different sidewall. That way, each team can make their own choice of tire and they can do more testing themselves. We(the fans) would win because not every team/driver would make the same choice and strategy would play a part.

A lot of people are blaming Goodyear but they bring the tire that NASCAR tells them to bring....

Also, JR gets part of the blame since he supposedly tested the tires at Indy in the off season. If only he had done more than 9 laps

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

Unfortunately (?) I missed the whole race. Ive watched most of it on espn classic and while i loved the beginning (jr leading), and then the resulting tire issues with several drivers, it leads to what we've been saying all along. Goodyear has no competition. Heck, with the economy issues, maybe those were the actual tires from Walmart/sams???

LOL! Then in fact, they are made by Goodyear if they're that sorry!

I've actually got some as well, on my 83 Nissan truck. Hard to tell how good/bad they are on a worn-out truck that's almost 26 years old!

CLERMONT, Ind. - Despite a report by ESPN.com to the contrary on Saturday, Sprint Cup driver Martin Truex Jr. has not agreed to any contract extension with Dale Earnhardt Inc.

Several sources close to the driver and his representatives on Saturday night adamantly denied a report by ESPN.com that Truex had agreed to a two-year deal.

The Charlotte Observer and ThatsRacin.com have been attempting to obtain confirmation this week of a Truex deal, but DEI officials have declined to comment.

In a brief interview Saturday evening with The Sporting News NASCAR Wire Service, Truex expressed outrage at the report.

"It's (expletive). I don't know what the hell (the reporter) is talking about. He doesn't know what he's talking about," Truex said.

Earlier this season, DEI officials said they were exercising an option for a third season with Truex in 2009. However, Truex must still agree to the option or sign a new contract. Otherwise, he would be available to drive for another team next season.

Maybe I should stop watching. Didn't get to watch at all today and Harvick did great.
