When the new engine rule for N'wide came out, it was up to every manufacturer to adapt their engines for the tapered spacer. Dodge and Toyota are neck in neck in HP ratings according to the previous dyno tests. Ford and Chevy say they are 5-20 hp off. Now, NASCAR should have allowed Chevy to use the new R07 engines in N'wide, which would have helped. I'm not up on the Ford engine program, so I can't speak for them. However, to be honest, I think that a change in midstream is a dumb move. Childress spanked everyone's butt in Busch last year, but there weren't any calls for help from other manufacturers. I think Toyota and Dodge did there homework on this new engine package while Ford and Chevy sat around thinking they would be okay since they had success last year. The only difference is that Toyota has better teams than Dodge in the N'wide series.
the other thing i have been thinking of is that its not toyota. its Gibbs. has any other toyota team won in N'wide?

Yeah, Braun racing...a Gibbs satellite operation. So, yes, Gibbs has it together. Maybe they are finally getting the factory support they deserved since they don't have to play behind HMS...

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

Yeah, Gibbs did their homework, thats for sure.

If ANY team is down 5-20 hp, that only tells me they have more work to do, some more than others. Ive never heard any team say "well thats all we can get with what we got". I know nascar wants everybody under the same umbrella, but I say let'em run, damn it.

- 358 ci
- carbs only
- single plane intake manifold, although nothing stickin outta the hood
- 2 valves per cylinder

and let them build whatever they can with the above.

That pic of him walking towards me is him coming from that. And I had two pictures of Jr. on the bed of the truck that took him around the track and both came out blurry as hell. After 4000 pictures taken, the camera doesn't do all that great on the fast action pictures. And Tony Eury Jr. was asked for an autograph by more people then about 40-50% of the drivers. You know your driver is popular when you as the crew chief is getting mobed for an autograph.

I know we've all seen this one, but besides Harvicks first win, this is how I used to remember Atlanta:

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

Pretty interesting article on NASCAR.com tonight:

Is it time for NASCAR to put a governor on Toyota power in the Nationwide Series?

Chevrolet driver Clint Bowyer thinks so. He claims the No. 20 Camry is so strong that owner Joe Gibbs could put a monkey behind the wheel and win.

Bowyer, the series points leader, was racing Ford driver Carl Edwards at Daytona recently when eventual race winner Denny Hamlin powered the No. 20 Toyota to the inside of both cars through the first and second corners -- and drove away.

Bowyer and Edwards nearly wrecked in disbelief.

Two weeks earlier, NASCAR had taken engines from a Nationwide race at Milwaukee for dynamometer testing at the sanctioning body's research-and-development center in Concord, N.C. The results of a small sample showed Toyota with a peak horsepower advantage of 21 over Ford, 20 over Chevrolet and four over Dodge.

After Kyle Busch won the July 11 race at Chicagoland in the No. 18 Gibbs Toyota -- the 14th Toyota victory in 20 races to that point -- NASCAR took 10 power plants to Concord for testing: three Toyotas, three Chevrolets, two Fords and two Dodges. In the third dyno test of the season for the Nationwide Series, those 10 not-so-little engines told a different story.

"I know the numbers for every car that was tested, and the whole motor issue sounds a lot quieter this week than it did in weeks past," said Dave Rogers, crew chief for all nine of the No. 20 Toyota's 2008 victories, which have featured four different drivers. "That's because there was a lot of parity.

"If you take out the best and the worst, the first and the 10th car, and you look at those eight in the middle -- and we were in the middle -- there was a lot of parity, more than NASCAR could ask for. You have a two-horsepower spread that captures six or seven cars."

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

Hi guys...

I know this is a NASACR thread, but since we are all interested in autoracing, I thought I'd share the video of the Danica Patrick/Milka Dunno catfight at this past week-end's Indy race.

It's not the first time little Danica has made her way to someone's pit to complain about someone else's poor driving, so it's nice to see someone "fight" back.

We need more of this in NASCAR. Reminds me of the Montoya/Harvick dust up last year...

If she wasn't so damn hot, I'd probably have something negative to say about her whining. She's just too sexy to get mad at though....

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread

I see that NASCAR has throttled the Toyota engines in the Nationwide series. Those engines were putting out near 30 more HP than the others so they changed a carb spacer to reduce the power. Nothing succeeds like failure in NASCAR I guess. I'd bet the engine guys at Gibbs Racing are having a fit. Wonder if the Cup engines are next?

Saw on ESPN that Reutimann was actually tops with less than a 5 hp edge, the 20 car was next, then one of the Roush cars was 2 hp less. Eventually once the other manufacturers get their new engines ready, they will also have to use the same spacer as Toyota. Seems that the Chevys have the biggest disadvantage because they haven't been approved to use the R07 and are still using the SB2 engine package.

Are you positive on that last point? I couldve sworn several teams are using/had used the RO7 already. I just thought they had another package they were working on that wasnt approved yet (heads).
