Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
Interesting "Fact or Fiction" article on NASCAR.com
http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/opin...ill/index.html Looks like the Tony rumour is closer to fact than we thought. And Mears to RCR's 4th car? I could get around that idea!

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
Why? You think he'll do anything spectacular over there? I don't.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
Well, he may not do anything spectacular at RCR, but he'll likely get more of a fighting chance with Burton, Harvick and Bowyer than he currently has in the shadow of Jr., Gordon and Johnson.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
Hey guys, sorry for not being around for a while. Been just a little busy. Been able to check in and read up on everything but haven't posted. So I figured I would catch up on everything.
1. Congrats to Jr. at Michigan on the win. Good to see him win and on all days, Father's day. This is the 4th Father's day for me with out my Dad and being able to win on a day like that, has got to be special. I'm not and was not all that concerned with him passing the pace car, being that he was just crusing with the car off saving fuel. That rule is for cars coming out off pit road and passing the pace car to get their lap back. What was kinda odd was how quick the caution flag was thrown for the crash on the front strech. I am sure I will get beaten down for saying this, but being the last lap and cars well into the infield, I would think that they would let the race finish or at least wait to see if the cars were going to stay in the infield or if they went back up to the track. To me, it just seemed like a very quick yellow flag. But a win is a win. And congrats. 2. Hearing more and more about Tony getting back in a Bowtie, is just making me happier and happier. I have thought about this for a while this year, and have come to his conclusion. I would rather Tony be in a Chevy and win one race then to be in a Toyota and win multiple championships. And now that form the sound of it, he is looking for sponsorship for Haas CNC teams. If he teams up with Ryan Neuman, I wouldn't be too upset with that. The one thing that would kinda worry me would be him having ownership in his own team. I know he would be part owner, but I hope that it doesn't interfere with his racing. I would like for him to wait til he was done racing Cup before he took up ownership, but if he thinks he could do it, then more power too him. Though, if he ends up back with JGR, then I am stating right here, right now that I will be switching alliances. I have backed Tony for over a decade, but if he goes back to Toyota, then I will be forced to be finding a new Chevy driver to root for. |

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
I was hoping Home Depot would go where ever Stewart went.

Re: The Official "NASCAR 2008" thread
I was kinda hoping too. I thought IIRC the last contract signed by Tony and Home Depot to JGR, made Tony, HD, and Zippy all tied together. If Tony or Home Depot left, the other could go along with Zippy. What I have been hearing is that if/when Tony leaves, Zippy is thinking hard about staying with Gibbs because of job security (being there over 10 years and having a third kid on the way later this year) he has there instead of going to a new team. But I wouldn't doubt that Tony would try to make him a sweet offer to come with him.
As for sponsors, the ESPN article is sayin Old Spice and Office Depot being the two companies that are possibly talking to Tony and Haas. Office Depot would be my favorite company to sponsor him, but if they are willing to pony up the money for him and the team, then they might be on the car come Daytona. They are saying Office Depot as the Primary and Old Spice a secondary sponsor with a few races as the primary. From Home Depot's point of view, they are somewhat struggling this year due to the slow building sector and therefore have sold off a few races this year to Subway on the #20 car. Tony is getting reportedly around $20 million a year from Home Depot/Gibbs and from what is being said, Logano is a little cheeper for them per year then Tony is, and they could get back to beening the primary sponsor for the full season. I'm sure Tony won't get Jr. money when he makes the move, but I wouldn't doubt he would be a close second. |
