I.M.C.A. Modifieds and Hossiers
I'm looking for help. I'm helping a neighboor this year with his car. We have a crew chief. I'm new to the racing scene, and am basically just helping in the pits and learning. I have a Modified book to learn the setup of the car to help me learn the class.
I did now work on the car last year when they were using the American Racer tire. We were competitive last year. This year on the Hoosiers we seem to be struggling. We tend to be loose on the entry. With other things being equal, does anyone know if there is anything we should be doing differently on setting the car up for the Hoosiers vs. the American Racers? Thx

You may have more stagger with the new tire. Measure the circumfrance of the rear tires. The difference is called stagger and will help the car turn better. Or in this case to much.

Re: I.M.C.A. Modifieds and Hossiers
Thanks. Yea, we played with the stagger all-season. Even scaled the car multiple times.
I think one thing we struggled with mightily was my driver kept bringing in different people and asking for help. 5 guys have 5 different opinions. We had one crew chief that I worked with mid-season, and although he talked a big game, he didn't know his ****. I think he screwed the car up over last year. At one point we got rid of the "looseness" entering the corner. Which is a good thing. Loose on the exit is workable, but not loose on the entry. So that was a big improvement. We also need a higher gear for exiting. We are too low in the power band on the exits. Although we would catch up due to the accordian effect, we would lose it on the exit. We played with stagger, tire pressure and everything in between. I'm not sure if we played with the brake bias though. Removing some rear brake bias would help us remain tight on the entry. Myself? I would rather be overtight on the entry, so I can carry speed into the corner, throw the car into the corner, get the front end to bite, brake late and late apex. Then be back on the gas as soon as possible. I'm not driving, and it's open wheel racing. So easy for me to say. Thanks dude. We've got an off-season now to mull it all over.
