Corvette C6R first overall

It's difficult for me to gauge the racing interest on this site. At Oscherleben in Germany this weekend the Phoenix Carsport C6R won the GT1 category and first overall in a rain filled FIA GT World Champion Series race. Saleen had won the opener at Siverstone, Maserati MC12 the second race. Next up I believe is SPA, in Belgium.
All the brands still compete in this televised world wide series [except of course in North America ]....that is the future look for GT series racing. Saleen S7R , Aston Martin DBR9, Ford GT, Maserati MC12, and yes...Nissan GTR are in this ultra-competitive series for GT1 and GT2 categories.

BTW.....the GTR is not competive at this time and came in 10th overall finishing and qualifying behind some GT2 cars. Many ex-Pratt & Miller cars are in this series. As well as the ex-Prodrive Astons and Ferraris. This is not a minor league series at all, and represents a significant Corvette win...they won enough last year to win the driver's championship and finish 1 point behind Maserati in the manufacturers category in this series.
The Luc Alphand ex-P&M C6R finished second at LeMans last week to the Corvette Racing factory car.

An interesting question will be what happens to the GT1 category when the rules change next year ?? Many teams won't be able to afford the changes to go to GT2 like Corvette Racing is doing.
There is no cost difference in running either class.....the GT1 development cost was always much higher in the past. Probably no longer.

I believe the GTR is setup for in anticipation for next years unified GT category. This is basically a test and learn season for them. Still fun to see though...
