Carburetor Violation Deemed "Blatant"
http://sports.espn.go.com/rpm/news/s...bgn&id=2047009
There have been some discussions about NASCAR's penalty system in the past, more recently about the suspensions handed down to crew chiefs in the Nextel series a few weeks ago (sorry - I forget the race, but I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking about). Well, NASCAR has gone and proven to all just how stupid they enforce the rules. Johnny Sauter's Busch car was disqualified after the April 16th Texas race for having an "illegal" carburetor. I say "illegal" because the carburetor used during the race had been approved by NASCAR BEFORE the race by NASACR officials !!! So, the team and driver lost all of their points for that race and crew Chief Joel Shear was suspended for 4 races. To add insult to injury, the National Stock Car Racing Commission (whatever that is) added a $25,000 fine to team owner James Finch, calling the carburetor violation "blatant". Blatant?!?! THEY ASKED THE OFFICIALS BEFORE THE RACE IF THE CARBURETOR WAS LEGAL!!! THE OFFICIALS APPROVED THAT CARBURETOR!!! This is blatant??? Get your act together NASCAR... |
