Chevy will get a new Aveo based off this, that's done.... What about one of Pontiac-Saturn Saab getting Opel Corsa which is much better all the way around.

Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

Here's a little eye candy. I hope GM approves it for the US. Gas Prices will go back up. It would be better to have the car here before that happens. I think it should absolutely replace the Aveo5

It's amazing how much GM actually improved its looks over the original concept pictured here:

Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

GM continues to confound me. I have lost all faith in the company. The management seemingly has no consolidated plan for how they want to manage the business. They are all over the place with which products are being developed, canceled, brought to the US, not brought to the US, etc. Its a joke. The constantly extol their great new designs that are both in concept and production form (Cruze, Beat, Invicta/LaCrosse, Camaro) and then they either introduce it in other markets before the US (Cruze) even though its badly needed here, don't introduce it at all even though there is buzz about it (beat), translate it poorly from concept to production (LaCrosse), or take SO LONG to actually get it to market that its simply a joke (Camaro). Their inability to choose a direction for the Beat is simply inexcusable in the light of their only NA entry into the really small car market being the totally uncompetitive Aveo.

As a former GM employee and someone who has owned a plethora of GM vehicles, I simply cannot justify GM deserving my patronage any longer. Especially in light of another American automaker releasing exciting and well executed new vehicles that look to be have designed and executed with some sort of larger plan and vision in mind (Ford Taurus, Fusion, Mustang, etc.). It is a sad day indeed.

Let's compare that to the Mini Cooper and smart ForTwo.

Cooper: 145.6in. L x 66.3in. W x 55.4in. H
ForTwo: 106.1in. L x 61.4in. W x 60.7in. H

The Matiz is 8in. shorter than the Cooper and 31.5in. longer than the ForTwo.
The Matiz is 7.4in. narrower than the Cooper and 2.5in. narrower than the ForTwo.
The Matiz is 3.6in. taller than the Cooper and 1.7 shorter (height) than the ForTwo.

This said, the Beat is probably a little larger than the Matiz, but not too much as it's still going to be an A Segment/City car/Supermini.
The Beat is around 140-141 inches in length.

The new Aveo will not be based off this but another halo rather.

Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

GM did a pretty good job keeping the Spark so close to the original design of the Beat. This car isn't for everyone. But for those of us who live in cities and have to circle for a spot, this car is a dream. It's like the fortwo but with a backseat. Awesome.

Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

The small cars I have driven are indeed scary on the highway. When you are looking at the lugnuts of an 18 wheeler or looking up at giant SUVs such as an Explorer (which isn't that large in the overall scheme), I clearly get the impression that this is a car I could easily die in, if in an accident. That fear was confirmed when I was struck from behind at a stoplight by a 16 year old who wasn't paying attention. Although the collision was less than 10 miles per hour, the car was totalled. Small cars will sell when they are safe and most vehicles are smaller, which becomes a circular argument.

guess what? GM is bringing this here. Ford is gonna follow GM to compete. GM had the superior malibu way before the fusion,GM has the camaro which will beat the mustang, GM had the lamdbas before ford made the flex and mkt, ford is just following to compete,an exception being the taurus
