Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

I can only define this situation in 4 simple words: "Sell the Beat here"

I heard they cleverly named the unveiling: Blue Balls 2.0.

IMO, it doesn't matter... if GM can't figure it out the government will figure it out for them...

Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

I really dont think they wuold be showing yet another (production) version of the Beat if they were'nt bringing it to the states!

Is the Beat and the Ford Fiesta close in size?

No, the Fiesta and Aveo are close in size. The Ka and beat are city cars.

Wink Re: Rumored: Beat @ NAIAS Testing Waters For Possible US Launch

So, let's see.

The Beat(concept) is viewed by a wide margin favorably at the NAIAS show

The Beat(concept, mockup, whatever) seems to have a "role" in Transformers 2 movie

The Beat(overseas spec production model???) is to be re-introduced to the same show this year that gave it such acclaim in the first place

Nah, they won't build/sell it here. Why start making sense now?

"Where's my guvamint $$$?!?!?!"

Let's use the current Matiz as a reference since the Beat is that car's replacement.

Matiz: 137.6in. L x 58.9in. W x 59in. H

Let's compare that to the Mini Cooper and smart ForTwo.

Cooper: 145.6in. L x 66.3in. W x 55.4in. H
ForTwo: 106.1in. L x 61.4in. W x 60.7in. H

The Matiz is 8in. shorter than the Cooper and 31.5in. longer than the ForTwo.
The Matiz is 7.4in. narrower than the Cooper and 2.5in. narrower than the ForTwo.
The Matiz is 3.6in. taller than the Cooper and 1.7 shorter (height) than the ForTwo.

This said, the Beat is probably a little larger than the Matiz, but not too much as it's still going to be an A Segment/City car/Supermini.

Yeah, but I expect that the gubment will want something for all their $$$ and will have to be appeased.
So greenlight the Beat already.

One thing for sure, if te Beat does or if they simply announce they are bringing it here; that will insure other companies to bring theres here.

When is GM going to realize that gas prices aren't going to stay this low for long. A car like this is needed for NA. I would buy it.

+1

This is one reason why GM is in the situation it's in today. They think and think and second guess and debate and second guess and think about everything....

Gas is not going to stay cheap, Americans are buying small cars in big numbers and GMNA needs A LOT of PR help... What more is there to think about?!?!?! Seriously?

It amazes me that the bureaucracy still exists this blatantly at GM.

I'm sure GMI will create an official thread for this once the embargo lifts, so I'll just add it here since its been leaked......

2010 Chevy Spark: (No longer called the Beat, apparently)

I'm still thinking about this one. I think it lost something from the Beat concept. Not sure I like "Spark" anyway.

Not surprised that they kept the Spark/Matiz names. And it looks aweome, but something else, watch there be a rebadge called the Pontiac G2 here as there already is in Mexico.

I think they should move the side marker up a little...doesn't look good just sitting there on the fender.
