Why not? If Dodge can successfully use the "Charger" moniker, a name that traditionally had been used on two door models, on a full size four door sedan, then Chevrolet can surely use its legendary "Chevelle" moniker on a modern full size car without having to make apologies... And the new Chevelle would certainly live up to its legendary performance roots... Plus
the attention Chevrolet would receive just by announcing the return of the Chevelle would be worth 3 months of commercial advertising... For free!

The Impala, Thunderbird, and Grand Prix are other vehicles that evolved over the years into vehicles that were quite different from their initial models... Some cars, it seems, evolve better than others.

Name it Caprice or Chevelle. Either that or Buick Park Avenue.

All I have to say is I saw a new Taurus SHO in Walled Lake last night (Ford MFC plates), and it is no match for the G8 (Chevelle). The trunk hangs out waaaaay too far, interior looked like the size of a Fusion's. Just looked bloated. I was excited about the SHO coming back, but after seeing it in the flesh (and knowing it will be priced like a GXP), I think GM is definately, definately missing an opportunity here for a higher end working-man's performance sedan.... bring back the GXP in limited numbers and fight the battle!

Amen brother. If I had a nickel for every post-G8 article speaking about the return of the Zeta chassis, I could retire.

Nothing wrong with dreaming, but "Lumina" will be most likely.
At least a good V8 performance sedan will remain with GM.

The only way it should come back as a 4 door base Chevelle.

That's classic GM-style "don't fix the car, put a bigger engine in it" knuckle-drag thinking that put them in bankruptcy.

Even with a 300HP engine, the G8 really wouldn't be very competitive with other larger V6 sedans, e.g. Taurus, Avalon, Maxima, LaCrosse, and so on. GM thought they could get "volume" with the V6, but it was reportedly the slowest seller.

If they are going to market a muscle sedan, just put some mean bodywork on it and forget all about a V6.

I like that these rumours keep the fire burning but lets be realistic. We all know that IF it does return, it will no doubt come equipped with a 1.4 DI turbo

Following your reasoning the car could simply be called Corvette Berlinetta or something like that!

BTW, the Chevelle was not a performance car at all.

Some were but those usually were Chevelle Malibu SS models, not the plain Chevelle...
