![]() This was the one car at Cadillac that really, truly was on the cusp of greatness. Cadillac had all the pieces in place. And I mean... every single piece was there. Cadillac was just unwilling or unable to take the XLR to the next level. It's disheartening.

Re: Refreshed XLR?
I think i've read on this forum that there was preliminary sketches of next gen. XLR somewhere in GM design studio. Maybe it is better we didn't saw it. So we don't know what car Cadillac couldn't get

Yes I see your point of view from an auto enthusiast perspective but from a buyers view point, Cadillac's XLR 2009 Platinum and V Series are very compelling designs in my view when I compared them to other 2009 performance roadsters. However, I would agree with you based on my visit this summer with the Cadillac team, there was very little indication of a second generation XLR. JLM |

Re: Refreshed XLR?
I couldn't afford an XLR. But it was certainly an amazing car to look up to and drool over.
And even if I could afford it, I probably still wouldn't buy it because it's not the most practical car... and i"m more of a sports sedan person anyways. But I still enjoyed looking up to it. I definitely had high hopes for the Gen 2 XLR.... seeing as the 2nd gen CTS was so much better implemented. What can you do? GM just doesn't have the development money to proceed. Hopefully, if thinks lighten up, GM will reconsider?

However, if those options are offered on the CTS Sedan, I would much rather get the sedan. And I would put CTS back on the list of cars for consideration. I want the practicality of a sedan, but I want performance and luxury. So I'm only considering sports sedans. But CTS Coupe, as shown in concept form, has raised my eyebrows. The only other coupe that has done that for me is the 6-series. The possibilities for CTS as a family are limitless.... if Cadillac can deliver the car as portrayed in concept form. I am willing to fork down for the upgrades, so long as they are available. And that remains the kicker for the CTS today. Perhaps tomorrow... but not today.

Re: Refreshed XLR?
Wait - I think I've been through this entire thread, and I don't find where the XLR is being cancelled.
It should be, and here's why - it's already well ahead of the pack on one increasing important measure: weight. The Corvette underpinning give it a 500lbs advantage over the SL. They've got a head start on everyone. Now's the time to take advantage of that. C'mon, GM. Let's not go all ADD on this car as well, like you always do. |

GM insiders all over the place agree that when the next generation of the Vette comes out (sometime in 2011/12/13) the XLR is Dead... Finished... History. Sorry, to break the bad news, if you want one, buy it now.

mgescuro, I find the Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept totally captivating from a style and design perspective. But my requirements also require a four door sedan and advance features. But I must admit, I am so tempted by this Cadillac Coupe's styling. The CTS Coupe Concept and 2009 CTS-V were present at Bowling Green, KY during the Cadillac XLR event and the interior of both CTS cars are beautiful. But the CTS Coupe Concept was a custom all leather wrapped interior similar to Maserati, Ferrari and Aston Martin. The CTS-V uses the hand sewn and cut process for its interior, but uses a variety of materials from leather, to soft and hard synthetic materials. I would expect the production CTS Coupe to display a leather wrapped interior like the current Cadillac Platinum Series or V Series models or Mercedes-Benz and BMW but not to the level of Maserati. I believe Cadillac uses German supplier, Draxelmaier, for the hand-cut/sewn interiors, much the same way many import luxury brands do. I just don't want to see the fake leather interior, much the same way the current CTS has.

Re: Refreshed XLR?
hey did ya all know that the XLR-V is Cadillac's most expensive model to date, costing some $23,000 more than the next priciest Cadillac, the STS-V, and it's a huge risk for a division still in the midst of mustering a credible threat to the European luxury marques. But the focus cannot be on whether or not a $100,000 Caddy should exist-since one indisputably now does-but rather on whether it lives up to the lofty expectations created by its six-figure sticker price.

Re: Refreshed XLR?
GM always had the wrong idea about the XLR, I don't think there is really much of a market for it at it's current price in it's current form.
What they should really do is make a version with the DI V6 from the CTS, trim the options down a bit, and price it at about $55-60,000. Offer an upgrade to the Northstar V8 that's currently standard and interior/electronics options (and by this I mean an interior that actually is worth the price) to bring it up to the current price. Either drop the XLR-V or offer it with an LSA for around $100,000. Then market it more like a mainstream luxury roadster than a super-high end car. The problem with current xlr is it doesn't really have anything to make someone say "Why should I buy this rather than just getting a corvette convertible for 55k which will perform just as good or better?," Cadillac right now realisticly does not have the name that Mercedes does to be able to sell a high end luxury roadster on name alone, they should be trying to hit the market that they are actually doing well in, which is at the BMW end of the scale. |
