What if they came out with the car in your avatar, and called it a GTO>>>

Re: News of Firebird's return!

The Firebird was an Icon for Pontiac. The hell with this GTO B/S and bring back what went well.

GTO for Pontiac was a heritage vehicle as well and brought out well before the Firebird was... wasnt it?

Then why didn't it stay for so long after. The Camaro came out and then a sister to it was the Firebird which lasted for a long time.

Now look at this pic:

And now this:

If pontiac wants a hot selling car to return they need something that will have a statment. "The return of the Firebird, for everyone who wants that badass inside of them to come out"

Just look how much more aggressive and it stance it makes compared to the GTO. Wouldn't you think that it looks a lot better?

There is no need to have another GTO it was waste for GM and will be again, no one will go for it because of how it allready failed, people want something that they now succeded!

I for one don't want to start reading articles how the Mustang is the sales leader when they sell (for example) 5,000 units per month, while the Camaro sells 4,000. The media may overlook the fact that the Firebird sold 2,000 units, giving GM the true sales win.

In any event, Pontiac doesn't need two powerful coupes competing against each other. Let the GTO and Camaro fight their own wars.
I am forced to agree with this assessment. As much as I like the Idea of having the Firebird back, the Camaro needs to stand alone. It needs to go against the Mustang mano a mano. I have no doubt Camaro will be the better performer. If they are more aggressive at marketing it to Women it will be a sales winner too.

Re: News of Firebird's return!

Why was I hearing that GTO will be four door from cnn.com. I don't know about that but I wouldn mind that. We can have:

GT0-Charger
Camaro-Mustang
Firebird-Challenger

Re: News of Firebird's return!

This will definitely be the GTO. I doubt that Pontiac will have three cars off of the same platform (If the rumors of the Grand Prix going Zeta are true).

Re: News of Firebird's return!

It's sad how everyone wants a legend car to be killed and have some flop GTO that hardly sold to return for another chance. Pontiac will have its moment but not with this GTO what the hell is it going to compare too? They need this Firebird to bring back what was lost.

Please please GM do not make another mistake. DO NOT build a firebird alongside the Camaro its bad for all parties involved!

Re: News of Firebird's return!

Lutz did hint at a Firebird.
Maybe GM should go the Ferrari route, where GTO was a used as modifier to the model designation. 250 GTO, 288 GTO.
Firebird - base V6
Firebird Trans Am - V8
Firebird GTO - V8 ram air, etc; that's preferrable to G9 GXP
