Re: News of Firebird's return!

All I am saying is if the Firebird and Camaro worked so well together for so many years, why not have it return. The GTO would be a bigger, heavier, more expensive Camaro which in my mind doesn't make any sense. You want a cheaper vette, get a Camaro. You want a sporty, more aggresive looking Camaro, Firebird.

Notice how GM is trying to bring back what was golden for them? Thinking of what was golden for Pontiac was the Firebird. Sales were very good for it from what I heard from my dad and people working in the pontiac dealership.

the GTO will be a different car than the camaro, bigger, heavier, probably with a softer suspension... probably more of a grand touring car (hence the name GT=Grand Touring)

the 04-06 GTO sold what was expected.. it wasnt a run-off huge hit.. but i'd hardly call it a flop
Ummm did you read the article, they said GM will build a rear-drive sports car for Pontiac off the same underpinnings. So now if everyone is saying that the GTO is this car, why is it the same underpinnings as the Camaro, makes no sense they weren't the same chasis, unless they mean stretched. Whis is why I believed it was the Firebird they meant.

Re: News of Firebird's return!

I say leave the Firebird dead. Let Ford have their Stang, DCX the Challenger and GM with Camaro and let the comparos and sales numbers do the rest.

I for one don't want to start reading articles how the Mustang is the sales leader when they sell (for example) 5,000 units per month, while the Camaro sells 4,000. The media may overlook the fact that the Firebird sold 2,000 units, giving GM the true sales win.

In any event, Pontiac doesn't need two powerful coupes competing against each other. Let the GTO and Camaro fight their own wars.

I believe the true name is Gran Turisimo Omalagoto which is Italian for Grand Touring Homologation. Ferrari also had a GTO at the same time and that I believe is where the name came from.

Make the GTO look like this. No one will be able to call it a rebadge...

Make's no sense they bothed shared the same chasis and now a bigger car is going to share the Camaro's, makes absolutely no sense. They should bring back the traditional cars, not a GTO that will fail again. Just look at my avatar and tell me that isn't one of the hottest muscle cars you have seen compared to the mustang and the new camaro.
Well, looking at the image, does it matter what the name of the car is? Who cares if it's called a GTO or Firebird? As long as there is a RWD muscle car with the pontiac logo, I'll be in line to drive it.

I would rather see a REAL GTO, not a car that is rushed over here, something that looks really good. Leave the Firebird dead

Re: News of Firebird's return!

The GTO was a flop. They figured they'd sale 18,000 a year and could barely hit 13,000. And to get to 13,000, they had to douse it in incentives. 2005 GTO's were going for $24,000 everywhere.

But in line with this discussion, the nameplate had little to do with the car's failure. If you called a car a Foot, and styled it right, you could have a hit on your hands. I personally don't care what its called, I like both names. I just don't want to see a G5esque rebadge. (That is putting nice paint and a Pontiac splitter on the grille.) Make it a brute 2+2 G35 fighter, style it right, and you've got a hit. And with that in mind, it makes more sense to call it a GTO, because thats not a mission for a Firebird.

Re: News of Firebird's return!

Well the pontiac is more of a heritage car which is why I was stressing it. When people pass by a C6 Vette wow nice, they pass by a T/A wow I miss that car. I always say it and so do my car freak friends of mine. I talked with soo many people about this and would love to see that badass car back on the streets. That's why it did so good because it was always like a rebel car in a way.

Re: News of Firebird's return!

It seems your inlove with the name?? I love the car, don't get me wrong, But i'd rather see the GTO at this point, and have the Firebird come back a year or two down the road in its own come back.

Maybe just use the name firebird on the next coup from pontiac that comes from Holden. Not compeating with the camaro, just like, the Grand Prix. Just call it a Firebird.

You can't say the Firebird outperformed the GTO in anything! 400hp, better suspension, MUCH SAFER! Better interior. I'm pretty sure, Luts wants the GTO name around, so it will be.

I would love to see pontiac with a Firebird and GTO, but not if there gunna take away Camaro sales. This war, and we need our most popular and most unique (sp?) Car to do as good as it can without clones! Go GM
