Re: Motor Trend Was Wrong: Next Cadillac FWD

I see the same old johnny one-note twits are out in full force, once more. Questioning how Cadillac can survive offering a FWD/AWD sedan against the MB S-Klasse or BMW 7 Series. Demanding that a cheap RWD chassis designed for a Chevy level vehicle, undergird and compete with premium RWD S- Klasse designs. It can't be done.

Gentelmen, We are NOT talking about competing with 1995 era cars, in 2012. What will you twits do when the 7 Series goes FWD/AWD, as BMW is rumored to be considering doing? It is rumored to have working proto-types already seen in Germany. BMW and Daimler, have to face reality, and their heavy pigs don't meet CAFE; and the Audi A8 is eating their lunch, if you hadn't noticed.

The DTS needs to be replaced. And until recently was the biggest Cadillac seller, until it just got too old. I know that a stretched AWD EPII, with an Eco-Boost HF 3.6 liter all-alloy, DOHC, VVT, 4 valve, DI, engine running HCCI mode, and a 6-8 speed transmission is not your cup of tea. You've said that ad nauseum.

I still fail to see how an magneto-rheological active suspension on an AWD version will not provide all the performance envelope that a big SEDAN could ever want or need and perform on any Autobahn in the world. And it will certainly satsify the livery needs of the typical DTS driver. And blow the doors off your cheap ZETA-based, ersatz would-be MB competitor.

If you wish a lithe handling RWD platform, for some fun, the typical XTS driver will just take his Porche keys out and go for a spin. Or alternatively wheel out his CTS-V. Choosing once again, the right tool for the right job. A much lighter RWD sports car, with performance rubber and brakes and accepting the poor comfort for the sheer temporary fun of wild performance, while accepting a very temporary bone jarring ride.

THANK YOU!

Would you please post this verbatim in every Cadillac thread you can find.

Despite their advertising as the "Most fuel efficient luxury fleet in America", BMW (and Daimler-Benz) pay the largest amount of money every year to the US government in gas-guzzler fees.( I cringe every time I see BMW's latest TV ads with that skinny white guy holding a CF light bulb saying how "Americans are always finding ways to be more efficient." )

Personally, I love the A8. Audis in general are my favorite German cars. Not specifically becasue they're FWD platforms, but because they're not ugly.

But your statement about the A8 "eating their lunch" vis a vis the BMW and Mercedes models intrigues me. Are you referring to European sales? Because that is not the case here in the states. The last time I looked, the A8 had found about 1000 buyers in the US so far this year. The S and 7 are doing much better, but way off their better years. But that can said of virtually all motor vehicle sales in 2009.
