Invicta name official???

I'm not sure how literal you can take articles, but I would think that Bloomberg would get this straight since this was from the press conference today. If so, it appears the next gen Lacrosse may in fact be called the Invicta!

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...KqU&refer=home

GM said it will bring five new products to the U.S. by the third quarter
of 2010. The automaker is adding a Chevrolet small car, the Buick Invicta
sedan and a sports wagon and coupe version of the Cadillac CTS sedan.

Re: Invicta name official???

On one of the conf calls I was listening to today that question was asked. Invicta has *not* been confirmed as the name for the production model.

Re: Invicta name official???

So when the JD Powers numbers come out in a couple of years calling the mid-size LaCrosse an extremely reliable vehicle, the press can then say "It is a shame that GM discontinued this reliable sedan." Enough with the name changes. You can not build a reputation with a five-year nameplate life-cycle.

But LaCrosse was a stupid name and it was called Allure in Canada. LaCrosse/Allure < Invicta. I agree, they need to stick with something, but I hope they stick with a good name.

I reeeeeally hope it's called Invicta. I really like the concept car and can't wait to see the production version.

I was thinking about this last night...

They should call it the LaCrosse and move the Super trim level down one notch and replace the top trim name with Invicta. They should do this for two years, then change the name to Invicta...in the middle of the generation.

I think that way they could make it clear that it's merely a nameplate change.

Re: Invicta name official???

Well it needs a name change for one principal reason: GM are moving to globally uniform names for their products. China is of course Buick's biggest market, and the Chinese LaCrosse isn't being replaced by the new Epsilon Buick, it's complementing it, occupying the slot of the just-discontinued Buick Regal. So as China gets a new model name, we'll get the new model name. If the car's anywhere near as stunning as the concept suggests, it'll be a strong enough product where nobody will care about the LaCrosse (sorry Hitman!).

I've always liked Allure though. It sounds classy. I love Invicta, but I sort of wish GM had kept it for a big Zeta Buick...

While I agree with you overall, musical nameplates just confuse things, it's not like it's an update of the same car - it is essentially a totally different car. It will be an Epsilon II now rather than a W body and the only thing that the two will have shared is the 3.6 liter V6.

Perhaps JD Powers will be smart enough to say "Invicta replaces the LaCrosse and rides on an updated version of the architecture that underpins the class leading Malibu."

LaCrosse should never have been used to begin with. The car doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to the showcar of the same name. They should have just stuck with Regal. At least the Invicta would actually look somewhat like the showcar it was named after. And Invicta is an old Buick name, afterall. Though I'm sure there's very few in the general public who are aware of that.

I think that's the first time I've ever seen CR and "smart" in the same sentence. Good thing there was a "maybe" in there.

I certainly did not buy my car for the sweet name. I knew it was an updated Regal. I agree that Century and Regal should not have been dumped. I would rather have it revert to Regal. Is Camry on the same chassis from the mid-80s? Probably not, but they want you to know that it is the same type of vehicle generation after generation.

Re: Invicta name official???

^^ I believe the Camry is on an aging platform. they just put a new body on it along w/whatever else. The Camry will be due for a new body design soon as one would imagine.
