Argh.
Maybe they figure they'll have Pontiac for another year to cover the more mid/entry intermediate class. Eventually, when Pontiac exits the stage, a 'premium' version of the Chevy Malibu would seem fitting and proper for Buick.

If Buick is going to have a Malibu-sized vehicle and use a past name for it I'd rather them use Regal, over Skylark anyway. I think Regal has a much better image (compared to the last of the late '90s fleet vehicle Skylarks), and, keeping with tradition, Regals used to be Malibu-sized. (Well, I guess that technically went out in the '90s with the N-body Malibu below the W-body cars, but even so.)

Re: GM Planning Buick Regal Concept?

Yeah ok, do concept of a car we have already seen. That doesn't seem like a waste of money at all!!! My God, when will they give up on Buick?? I rather drive an Infiniti or Acura before driving a Buick!

Why will Buick have a Malibu sized vehicle? I thought the point of getting rid of so many brands was to have different product in each of the remaing brands? This makes no sense to me. GM should just die now.

Re: GM Planning Buick Regal Concept?

I'm wondering why GM doesn't set the Buick-Chevy relationship exactly how Toyota has themselves and Lexus aligned... It seems to be a good working formula.

In any event, I guess I'll echo what many others have said. You need to do a "concept" of a "copy of" and existing car?

I'm hoping that they mean it will be based on that vehicle only changed a great deal, and not... "we need time to do this concept to get the new grille to fit right".

Which I wouldn't put it past GM to wait 2 years until the vehicle is already no longer competitive to make it available.

Does it not seem like they always wait just long enough so the car they come out with is no longer competitive?

Re: GM Planning Buick Regal Concept?

How different is the Regal from the new Lacrosse? do they need both vehicles in Buick's line-up?

Side note: What did he see about Enclave redesign....maybe a peek at the 2013 model? Is that what he's speaking of?

Its going to be smaller and probably have less powerful engine choices.

Then the only things that are not imports these days are the asian imports. The big three build a lot of vehicles in the Great White North.

That confused me too. It makes me wonder about the "Sources" cited.

Once the new La Crosse is available, Lucerne sales are going to disappear entirely (aside of fleets).

Just to clarify what you said, the Regal will be smaller? Not talking about Enclave, are you?

Re: GM Planning Buick Regal Concept?

I'm confused too - looking at pictures of the China Regal, it looks awfully similar to the NA new Lacross I got to sit in the other day - I'm not sure what the difference is. And that, as a CTF, seemed production ready. And it was nice - there was a lot of attention paid to little details. Made me hopeful for the future of Buick...

If I understand your post, you feel Lucerne sales will not be harmed by a cheaper, fancier, just as roomy LaCrosse. Please explain.

Re: GM Planning Buick Regal Concept?

Also, if there is indeed going to be a "concept" Regal, it will likely be a production Chinese regal with a more aggressive facia and larger wheels.

Lacrosse is bigger. Similar to the difference between the Camry and the Avalon.

Correct, I'm not talking about the Enclave.
