I'm referring to the site I PMed you about. And I suppose you're right about fins helping airflow, but I don't think 4-5 inches is really needed, perhaps a couple inches for looks.

I don't think fins improve air flow. They are an impediment to air flow.
What they provide is better laminar flow, with resultant stability. Think in terms of the feathers on an arrow. The feathers stabilize the flight of the arrow, but also diminish how far the arrow flies.

Great explanation. I'm all for better laminar air flow for 21st century Cadillacs due to cool looking fins!
