Re: Corvette ZR1

You can't go wrong with a boosted LSx. They'll probably be making 850+hp without touching the engine.

Re: Corvette ZR1

I think they would get more credit from the techies if they used a turbo my self. that engine should make plenty of TQ down low to get moving, then have the turbo spool up by 3500-4200rpm, redline the engine at 7500or even 8000 with 800HP at peak....400-500TQ that way all the exotic lovers could compare numbers more easily... (cause i've noticed most of those exotic engines are set up like that, 400TQ but then like 600-650HP i cant quite figure out why...)

why not bring back some of the old concept car names from the 1960's
And why dont they create something special for this special Vette....
like maybe :

TUNNEL ROOF COUPE
NEW BIGGER COWL HOOD

Look back at the 2nd and 3rd generation Vettes...they seem to change something every model year.(New hood styles, new roofs, new bumpers, etc.) Considering the price of this vehicle, its cost effective for them.

Let's reiterate- Any Chevy can be an SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z28.
And if you are putting those on a pedestal (which works for me) don't forget the shared RPO with the ZL1. Ahem. 2010 650hp ZL1 Camaro, yes please!

Oh, by the way, where did Cobalt go? I heard the Mountaineers in Carolina have dropped 'coon skin and started using wolverine for their caps! Oh, and ZR1 is perfect for this new 'Vette.

That is exactly what I'd like to see-

Camaro Coupe (V6)
Camaro Z28 (400+hp V8)
Camaro ZL1 (500+hp V8)

The Mustang has a V6 coupe and the GT with the GT500 (and other various names) as a very expensive uber-Mustang.

The Camaro doesn't need 3 'affordable' levels like it had in the 4th Gens. (V6, Z28, SS) Two models (V6 and Z28) are all that are needed (with an RS option available on any model) and let the ZL1 be the uber-Camaro. No need for SS at all.

Re: Corvette ZR1

I love that they're using the ZR1 name, although I'd have liked it even more if it was going on a Corvette with a high-revving DOHC powerplant that would best serve Duntov's original conception of what a ZR1 should be, i.e. a Corvette chassis with a euro-style high-rpm OHC drivetrain.

Regardless, I'm much happier with this than "SS" or "Z07".

Corvette SS should be a nomenclature reserved only for concepts and race cars, like the Zora's original C1 SS back in the 1950's.

You do know that IROC stood for "Internation Race Of Champoins". Nothing to do with GM or any car maker. After it left the Camaro, it went to the 90's Dodge Daytona. Then it left for good I believe.

Re: Corvette ZR1

ZR-1
Didn't last zr-1 had Dohc v8 developed by lotus and produced by mercury or something like that?
Does anyone know why GM didn't developed that engine (i think it was LT-5) further or even start putting it in other cars? Was it too heavy or too expensive?

Re: Corvette ZR1

^^^ Yes, the DOHC 5.7l LT-5 was co-designed by GM and Lotus, and was assembled by Mercury Marine in Oklahoma before being sent to Bowling Green to be put in the ZR-1

Re: Corvette ZR1

I don't like it. The should save ZR-1 for a Corvette with a 6.0 litre+ DOHC DI Ultra V8 . A low-tech gravelly S/C truck motor isn't up to ZR-1 status.
