I cant see it being that much cheaper. If the LS9 isn't hand built like the LS7, then it wont have have the sophistiaction or the coolness to the LS7. Id like to see the same attention to detail with the LS9, using titanium rods, and other LS7 features. The LS3/LS9 is similar to the LS7, but I expect that teh LS9 to have the LS7's heads and other features...plus blower.

I have, infact I think if driven about every SS on the lot today and from the past several years. To tell ya the truth, I think the Trailblazer has too much power and performance to be called and SS when you look at the other models. I am a strong voice in the fight against SS whoring...I feel that the models that deserve it shouldnt get it because of the lesser models that tarnish the image. As I see it, if a model doesnt have 300hp out of the box (which isnt that much today) then it should be Sport. Anything with an LS# motor or enough power as so it could keep up with a LS# powered car can be an SS.

The Corvette is a completely differant story, I believe it has a certain level of exclusive rights to do what it needs to do. I mean, SS is NOT SRT, the Corvette was never an SS car...and no matter what anyone says, you have to respect heritage, especially with a car such as the Corvette when its got one of the largest fanbases out of any American car ever produced. GM cant turn their back to the enthusiasts just to do what Dodge does. The Viper is a kid, it hasnt established a rich history like the Corvette has..that doesnt discredit it in anyway...just allows the Viper more leniency because it is really only expected to look sharp and have boat loads of power. The Corvette, well, it doesnt have it that easy.

Thats my 2 cents.

Re: Corvette ZR1

cool. I bless the decision. Sticks with the current Corvette nomenclature. Won't alienate current Corvette owners, like myself. Z07 would have also worked. But SS is too far different from the current Corvette nomenclature.

Although, if the current C6 Z06 had a problem with converting the hp to work to move the car under acceleration, instead of converting the hp to melting the tires, imagine the problems this will have. Sounds like this needs to already be mid-engined.

ZR-1 returns! I used to LUST after that car. And so did all of my school friends, gee I was in 5th grade or so at the time. Heck, if the engine wasn't so expensive and rare, I'd still want one.

Far superior name to the Corvette SS.

Just like he said. All of the SRT Chrysler LLC products are the highest-performing models. The number of models has nothing to do with cohesiveness. The SRT brand is cohesive, the SS brand is not.

I'd rather Chevy's performance vehicles have unique monikers than the generic 'SS' shared with so many other models. Corvette and Camaro should stand out above the other Chevy's.

SS is too watered down and generic for the Corvette. This is the reason many enthusiasts want Z28 to be the top model on the 5th Gen Camaro. I personally am unsure what I'd like to see as top, I know I would like to own a Z28, but if it's a $35,000+ model I won't be able to afford it. If the lineup is V6 Coupe, SS, Z28 I'll be stuck getting an SS. But I may consider removing the SS emblems unless I find them unusually attractive...

Let's reiterate- Any Chevy can be an SS, but only a Camaro can be a Z28.

Yeah except they beat the Z horse to death with the Z24 Cavalier, the Z34 Lumina, later monte carlo, and the Z36 beretta.

Maybe Cobalt will get a Z name when the turbo shows up.
I much preferred when they were using a Z moniker on everything. Each car had it's own Z?? instead of a generic SS.

Cavalier Z24
Beretta Z36?
Lumina Z34
Camaro Z28
Silverado Z71

All used a Z, but had a unique identifier. But I doubt they'll go back to that name scheme for all the cars. Camaro and Corvette should be exclusive to Z now imo.

Well I wouldn't include the Silverado because that is an off-road package. The Lumina, Beretta, and Cavalier (for the most part) were an apperance package.

For example, you could get the 2.4 Twin-Cam in a Cavalier RS without the Z24 trim.

u could not get an RS w/ a 2.4, u could get an LS w/ a 2.4 but then u didnt have the larger front sway bar that the Z24 had.

n e ways back to topic. I like the name ZR1 its a good name, now i'm wondering about the engine. is gm seriously considering a SUpercharger? i hope not, a 650 NA OVH would be a monster.
