Chevrolet El Camino/Holden Ute Rumor: The REAL Cars Are Coming Back!!

(Rebadging the Holden Commodore as the Pontiac G8 might not be the only example of Australian-American collaboration within General Motors. According to a new report, GM might import the new Holden Ute to the United States — possibly as a revived Chevrolet El Camino.

http://www.leftlanenews.com/2007/02/...ino-to-return/

Sources told Australia's CarPoint the lure of "substantial" export orders for "the Americas" have accelerated the planned launch date of the new Commodore Ute.

Eleven months ago, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz said a new El Camino could come by "putting a Chevrolet face" on a Holden Ute.

The Commodore/G8, Ute, and Chevy Camaro all share GM's new Zeta rear-wheel-drive platform. GM officials have also acknowledged plans to build a new Pontiac GTO, Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo, and an all new Buick model on the platform.

Is this what the VE Ute will look like? With thanks to CGI

Good, use everything they can from Holden. Helps bring in more money to keep them up to date.

Re: The REAL cars are coming back!! FINALLY

Err, the Monte needs to die.

Pontiac is already going to have the large coupe GTO, basically a two door G8.

Chevy is going to have Impala, and small coupe Camaro. There is no need for Chevy having the Monte Carlo. If its just for NASCAR, then drop Chevy out of Nascar and make the fake car look like the Pontiac GTO (the true sports car brand of GM, kinda) haha.

Good to see GM putting some use into with Holden. Seems like GM wants to keep the Monte to compete against the Solora and Nissan coupe. It still needs to go either way, but atleast its a good move.

I dont know what I want from GM's new lineup anymore, all of it is great and rather nicely priced to. Although I have one question though, if Olds still existed, how would Holden or Opel look like as Olds models?

This is a pickup.

It is not made in North America.

Therefore, it is subject to a 25% tarriff.

Is GM trying to invent new, creative ways to lose money?

Re: El Camino / Holden Ute Rumor: The REAL cars are coming back!! FINALLY

The thought of a new RWD Monte Carlo positioned above the Camaro in size is intrigueing. I would guess the MC will have the same powertrains as the IMP while the GTO will will have the most powerfull Camaro engine standard. Two RWD Chevy coupes along with the IMP and the El Camino is like a DREAM COME TRUE but is it really TRUE??----I question they will do this even though I think they should!----Maby let Buick have what was to be the MC as a new luxury loaded RWD RIVIERA!! And let GMC have a version of the 4 dr Ute model with more luxury while Chevy has the 2dr El Camino version!

It will most likely be built in NA. GM is ramping up tooling for Zeta in plants already, or soon to be. THen they can build any Zeta car in NA or AU.

I'd like for GM to take some chances.

Re: El Camino / Holden Ute Rumor: The REAL cars are coming back!! FINALLY

I'm all for the large, rear wheel drive cars. The G8 is awesome and I hope it does well. But I really hope GM is still going to concentrate on competitive, class-leading small and midsize front wheel drive-based cars as well. The Malibu and Aura are great progress from their predecessors, but the competition is still working hard too. I have high hopes for the Epsilon II based cars and the Delta II compacts.
