Chevrolet Camaro Executive Express Edition in the Works?

Reposted from Camaro5.com
Quote:
According to BusinessWeek, GM Vice-Chairman Bob Lutz has led on about a Camaro "Executive Express" edition being considered or in the works. Allegedly, this special edition will give the Camaro a more premium/executive look, including an all-black exterior with aluminum trim touches and an upgraded premium "european car looking" interior.
Here are more details. - http://www.camaro5.com/?p=2280
Would be interesting to see what this thing actually looks like and costs. As long as Camaro sales remain hot, why not do something like this. It'll only help keep sales and interest high. Plus something like this might help capture some buyers who are looking for a more premium interior.

Chevrolet Camaro Executive Express Edition in the Works?

A Chevrolet Camaro for the MBA set

In its day, the Camaro was a cheap sports car for the buzz cut and gold chains crowd. But the new one, packed with a high-tech V-6 engine that kicks with 304 horsepower and 29 mpg on the highway (V-8 is optional) is far more sophisticated than the old generations of the car. General Motors wants to up its sophistication up a notch with an Executive Express edition of the car that will look snazzier than the stock version of the car, GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz told me. The car will be all black, may have some aluminum trim touches on the outside and a European-looking interior like an Audi, Lutz says.

Why not? The car’s design certainly has cues from the Camaros of yore. But it’s not a retro knock off. It really is a modern interpretation of the Chevy pony car. So far, it has been a success. GM sold 8,700 last month, compared with 6,300 Ford Mustangs sold last month, and it remains in short supply at dealerships even in this dismal car market. A spruced up version may just hit.

I was hoping for a modern interior.

Why can't they sell Camaros cheaper? I've seen SS's starting at 50k. I could just get a Vette for that kind of money. The markups are unbelievable. When will GM give us another coupe that we all can afford since the G6 coupe is dead???

Because GM has no control over what dealers charge for Camaros.

Give it 6 months and the markups will be gone. Demand for this car is hot, but I don't see it having legs once the newness wears off.

I love the "Audi" like comment. I heard this before when the interiors of the GMT-800 trucks were mildly updated in 2003. They promised they would be more Audi-like. What GM says and what GM does is VERY different. I can't imagine GM dumping money in an updated Camaro interior for years. They are simply too cheap (and poor) to do an upgrade right away.

50K? Mine was fully loaded and came up to $38k. The dealer wanted to give me a markup, so I just said I will get the car sent to another dealer to buy it there. Dealers put a markup on it because customers pay it.

The Camaro gets an upgrade for 2011 when the convertible comes out.

Re: Chevrolet Camaro Executive Express Edition in the Works?

When I read the title I cringed. I thought that it was going to be another decal stripped package without any performance gains like the 2002 anniversary addition. Although there is no mention of performance, a nicer interior with clean lines would be welcomed. I will need a car in the spring, and I’m leaning towards the Camaro, but I will decide later. A year old 330ci is also in consideration. If they would include a version of the FE3 package, lowered more than the SS along with the nicer interior; I would be sold. I’m encouraged to see Lutz take on a larger role in GM; always moving in the right direction!

Re: Chevrolet Camaro Executive Express Edition in the Works?

Why dont they do a longer restyled version of this platform as a Buick Grand National with a TURBO DI 3.6L 400+HP V6? Now THAT would be the EXECUTIVE EXPRESS they are looking for!!!

Yup. It would expand the appeal and product portfolio that Buick has, but that would make too much sense.

Re: Camaro Executive Express Edition - potentially new edition

That model would be more like the Dodge Challenger; better interior, navigation, more sound insulation. Both the Challenger and the Executive Express are a 2010 update of the 1969 : The Mercury Cougar XR-7.

Re: Camaro Executive Express Edition - potentially new edition

wow maybe it would get a worthy interior of that sweet exterior, but as much as I love BOB Audi like doubt it!
